About this mod Machine translation
This mod edits the candlelight and magelight spells to have the exact same light as a torch while making the bright white mesh sphere invisible. It also changes the inventory art and lighting effects when equipping and casting.
I've never been a fan of Candlelight or Magelight spells. The bright white light is always harsh and the floating orbs are a nuisance to me. So much so that I'd rather carry a torch than cast these spells.
Today I decided to cross this off my list.
The first thing I did was edit the Candlelight and Magelight spells to get the exact same lighting as the torches. This includes range (900), color (252,158,65), flicker (not noticeable at all) and all the rest.
I noticed that the spell in my hand was still white and that annoying white orb was still there. So I dug around and found every little nugget.
I've adjusted the mesh to be invisible, all lights to match the new torch colors, and I've created new records and meshes for viewing since the original records and meshes are used by multiple sources. We don't want to confuse Meridia ;)
Other than coloring, I've left the spells in their vanilla state. If you use mods to tweak candlelight and magelight spells (like me), you'll need to create patches for this to work perfectly in the game. Anyone is free to tinker, edit and reconfigure this mod to their liking and upload their results. Trust me though, it takes all day ;)
Install & use Install: follow the bundled instructions
- Unzip the archive from playbuff and read the bundled readme / instructions first.
- There is no universal mod manager for this game: some mods replace game files directly, some go into a game-specific Mods folder, and some need a game-specific community loader or tool first — follow the bundled readme.
- Place the files exactly as the readme says; mods with listed dependencies need those installed too.
- Launch the game to confirm it loaded; some games require enabling mods in settings or an in-game mod menu.
Install locations vary a lot between games and mods — the bundled readme is the most reliable guide.
