About this mod Machine translation

Fixed corrupted textures and cleaned/optimized multiple other textures (high-res versions and especially low-res versions).

==Details==

Texture issues in original "All-in-One UFF" (High Resolution) and/or "All-in-One Compressed Texture Pack - Master File Required" archives:

  • There is a corrupted texture file: textures\mayatola\UFF\armor\obcavewallfire_g.dds

Corrupted both in the original high-resolution download and in UFF's compressed texture pack ("All-in-one Compressed Texture Pack - Master File Required"). I can't fix it using the image tools I already have (the best I could do was to recover some of the data in it, but the red part is moved far to the right and the repair attempts don't work. My solution is to just leave this mask file blank, which will be boring, but at least it won't break (you won't get the glow effect you expected, but you won't get the texture-cracked barf either), and I

  • Compressed texture packs miss the ability to compress/reduce various files; for example, in \textures\actors\character\facegendata\facetint\ there are 4K textures that clock in at about 16MB each and do nothing more than trivial makeup effects. Some are incorrectly saved in DTX5 format (huge) despite not having an alpha channel. There are some other potentially unnecessarily large files (for a low-resolution pack), such as several 5MB files in each character directory (textures\mayatola\UFF\armor\vyliana\etc.). There's also a bunch of extra-large brows, hands, and more, including a 5MB tattoo, a huge 1.4 MB file for tiny scars, and more. No one on a low-end rig needs enough eye texture for beach ball-sized eyes. Ha ha. I cut most of the big stuff down to 50% size so it actually fits the description of "compressed texture pack".
  • Several Facetint masks and Face Spectral masks and a few other things behaved horribly in "Jagged" when they were blown from smaller originals to gigantic sizes. Textures (and other images) just don't work that way! Some lip makeup masks look like they are from old 8-bit video games. h This can be easily fixed to a certain extent using a mild Selective Blur filter. Not better than a makeup mask of proper resolution, but better than the mask on offer. Also, a bunch of specular/diffuse masks are broken up into copies of low-resolution files (which makes no sense and breaks the shader's anti-aliasing capabilities). This also affects high- and low-resolution files. Also saves memory and storage space; for example,

PS: I find it strange that the ESP included in the low-resolution texture pack is significantly smaller than the original one. I would trust this to be correct (perhaps the result of a TES5Edit cleanup?) and run with it, but keep the original content just in case.

==Installation==

Select high or low resolution and drag 'n' number of texture folders into your game's data folder and let them merge, overwriting as needed. These are not vanilla files, so don't worry.

Oh, and of course, you need to install the original module first.

Patched Installer: After you're happy with the new textures you can extract the contents of the original "All-in-One UFF" (High-Resolution) and "All-in-One Compressed Texture Pack - Requires Master Files" archives and copy my updates into them and then re-archive. That way if you need to reinstall them for another game you don't have to keep my patch and reapply it. The low-resolution version's file modification date is set to be newer than the high-resolution version's file modification date, so Wrye Bash doesn't have the "annealing" problem, and refuses to overwrite high-resolution textures with low-resolution versions (which is why you have to install the low-resolution version, regardless of whether my texture patch is installed or not).

Install & use Install: follow the bundled instructions

  1. Unzip the archive from playbuff and read the bundled readme / instructions first.
  2. There is no universal mod manager for this game: some mods replace game files directly, some go into a game-specific Mods folder, and some need a game-specific community loader or tool first — follow the bundled readme.
  3. Place the files exactly as the readme says; mods with listed dependencies need those installed too.
  4. Launch the game to confirm it loaded; some games require enabling mods in settings or an in-game mod menu.

Install locations vary a lot between games and mods — the bundled readme is the most reliable guide.
