It once felt like picking up a loose dog and putting him/her to good use, now you can. You can recruit up to 5 gangsters as followers, who have voices and have basic follower functions like wait/follow/trade, or you can choose to fire them to hell, which will make them hostile again.
Bandit followers are not essential and will die as usual. However, they will regain health, but with a reduced rate of 0.3, compared to the normal rate of 0.7.
When you reach max 5 and recruit another bandit, one of them will be left behind and may not know it. Due to limited testing, I have little idea of the consequences of trying to break this model, but I recommend that you kill the bandit if you don't need to.
NOTE: Not all "Bandits" are affected, only people in "Bandits" can become fans. These are your generic run-of-the-mill ruffians.
Regen: If you find that the bandit no longer has any health regeneration, talk to them and choose one of the dialogue wait/follow/trade and it will trigger health regeneration again.
how does this work
The generated quest searches for the "BanditFaction" NPC in an outflow state and allows you to talk to and recruit as a follower. A quest alias is applied to bandits and they do not get their appearance, stats or equipment reset when their origin/location is periodically reset. However, the affected bandits occupy a slot, so if you return to the area where you obtained them, and after that location has been reset/respawn, there will be no one in their original location while the other bandits reset normally.

Install using the manager. When unloading just kills your bandits or they just follow you and you can't talk to them.
