Real Shelter - Frostfall Companion
This mod prevents rain from passing through overhead shelters. Shelters can really... provide shelter now.
Is there anything special about this feature?
"One of the characters I was currently playing was currently in Solitude territory, and it was late at night and it started pouring rain with lightning and thunder. What a gloomy weather, and I had Frostfall. Normally I would find an inn to take shelter from the rain, but now I don't have to! I can just stand under a nice, warm shelter near Fletcher and enjoy the pouring rain!" - Calipercat
very nice! But...how does it work?
Rainfall in the sky is an illusion - that is, the flat shader fills the viewer's field of view. It's like wearing glasses, which have the effect of rain animation covering the field of view. So rain doesn't really exist in Skyrim's world - which is why it passes through everything. Now when a shelter using a real shelter determines the weather type, it will use a non-rainfall type instead of its own effect. It then activates the weather effects from the previous world around itself. (At this time, there is no rain effect under the shelter, but there is still a rain effect outside.) When leaving the shelter, this local effect will be turned off, and the previous weather will be restored. (At this time, the entire field of vision is filled with the effect of rain.)
So how is the transition from rain outside to rain in the shelter achieved?
Depending on your local configuration, game settings can see the shelter transition effect ranging from subtle to noticeable. Visually, the transition occurs when the rain in the sky is compared to the rain in the shelter. In terms of sound, the sound of rain hitting objects, such as overhead shelters, will become louder.
TLDR: Hallucinated rain will be replaced by real rain.
Install:
Before installing any new mod, backing up your save is always necessary.
The NMM wizard installation package can provide patches for different weather mods.
At the same time, you can also manually download individual patches. You only need to unzip the .7z file and put it in the data directory.

Loading order: BOSS can recognize many mods but not all mods. Load this mod after all weather & light mods for best results.
compatibility:
There is no real conflict in the game, but shelter work requires correct identification of weather systems.
Skyrim from vanilla Skyrim is overwritten. Mods that change or add weather require specially built patches to allow the shelter to recognize these weathers. If you run a weather mod, please check the list below. Because the locations of shelters are fixed, they will not move with buildings that have been moved or modified by a mod. If you have a mod with similar functionality, please check the list below. The following mods are now known to be compatible:
- Hearthfire home towers
- Dawnguard
- Dragonborn
- CLARALUX
- Climates of Tamriel (with Real Shelter CoT patch)
- CoT Weather Patch (use Real Shelter CoT Weather Patch)
- Enhanced Lights and FX (loaded before Real Shelter)
- Expanded Weather Systems
- Expanded Towns & Cities (uses the ET&C patch, downloaded after ET&C and any Real Shelter patches)
- Frostfall (without tent)
- Immersive Skyrim Thunder
- More Rain and More Snow
- Namaof's Watchtower
- No Snow under the Roof
- Open Cities
- Pure Weather (loaded before Real Shelter Standard patch) *WARNING: May cause …
Install & use Install: follow the bundled instructions
- Unzip the archive from playbuff and read the bundled readme / instructions first.
- There is no universal mod manager for this game: some mods replace game files directly, some go into a game-specific Mods folder, and some need a game-specific community loader or tool first — follow the bundled readme.
- Place the files exactly as the readme says; mods with listed dependencies need those installed too.
- Launch the game to confirm it loaded; some games require enabling mods in settings or an in-game mod menu.
Install locations vary a lot between games and mods — the bundled readme is the most reliable guide.
