About this mod Machine translation
This is one of a (hopefully) long-running series of miniatures designed to create a sense of "power fantasy" that the game is best at giving you, and by extending your player character to feel like you're truly powerful and skilled at your craft.
As the first model in this (hopefully) upcoming mini-series, I'm using this mod to give one of the most popular paths in video games: Necromancy. In order to do this, I edited certain pre-existing spells, enemies and even items related to Necromantic lore as well as adding entirely new summons, all of which could be considered absolutely friendly based on the research I did when creating these spells.
The following list shows edits to vanilla assets (yes, this means conflicts may arise with other mods that also edit these assets)
Soul Cairn Summons: These were hyped in lore as some of the most powerful undead creatures the Necromancer could control, to the point where the souls of the Necromancer were captured and namesakes ventured to obtain their services, but in Vanilla 2 any of them were worthless, and one of them was a slightly oilier version of the Dremora Lord, so the first edit, addressed these iconic minions.
- Summon Bonemen: Changed to a novice level spell, changing their bow to a horizontal variant, giving them a horizontal one-handed weapon
*Of course, Boneman can prove it's worth furthering your dark agenda
- Summon Mistman: changed to apprentice level spell, now can use Frost Cloak, Ice Storm, Ice Spike and Frost Breath
*While its damage output is still primarily frost damage, this damage is now more consistent and effective
- Summon Wrathman: changed to proficiency level spell, now can use Drain Vitality roar
*This spell has only seen minimal changes since it was already "workable" in vanilla, but there's always room for improvement,
And why it was downgraded to proficiency level will be explained further on this page.
Necromancer's Amulet: One of Mannimarco's most notorious artifacts, designed to confer great regeneration, magical protection, and increased wisdom and magic (and apparently necromancy) at the expense of one's physical health, but in vanilla we get a shamelessly magical item at best. Therefore, we have made the following edits/additions to truly represent the greatness of Mannimarco craftsmanship.
- Grants 150% health regeneration
-Debuff HP 75 points
- Gain 40% spell absorption
- Grants 25% magic resistance
- All other vanilla effects are unaffected
Reaper: One of the most mysterious entities in Soul Cairn, only encountered through the reunion of 3 Reaper Gems within its lair. You'd expect such an elaborate entry strip that you'd get the fight of your life from the Ideal Master's greatest minions, but the vanilla we got in the fight was a glorified Draugr. That's where this mod comes in, making Reaper even more memorable.
- Minimum level is now 50, and max level with the player is 100 (meaning don't fight him at lower levels unless you want to challenge him further)
- Now available with Frost Cloak and several powerful Shouts
After these edits, I felt it wasn't enough to really give the Necromancer more tools and gameplay, so I decided to create a few new spells to fully flesh out your undead entourage's roster for the final installment: Enslaved Souls, and of course the classic Mass Resurrection.
- Raise the Dead (Mage): Unleash dark magic to reanimate all corpses around you until slain, this spell transcends traditional casting methods.
- Conjure Tongue Warlord Soul (Expert): The long tongue of ancient experienced cursed souls, now summoned to serve you. He is an expert in melee combat, making full use of his voice to further defeat his enemies.
- Conjure Ascendant Clever Craftswoman (Expert): In the ancient times of the Nords, they had an appreciation for magick, which they called "Clever Craft". However, even so, the allure of necromancy seduced many (Durnehviir herself is proof of this), and th …
Install & use Install: follow the bundled instructions
- Unzip the archive from playbuff and read the bundled readme / instructions first.
- There is no universal mod manager for this game: some mods replace game files directly, some go into a game-specific Mods folder, and some need a game-specific community loader or tool first — follow the bundled readme.
- Place the files exactly as the readme says; mods with listed dependencies need those installed too.
- Launch the game to confirm it loaded; some games require enabling mods in settings or an in-game mod menu.
Install locations vary a lot between games and mods — the bundled readme is the most reliable guide.
