About this mod Machine translation

A large carved wooden arch behind the throne of Whitelen Jarl. Available in extra high and ultra low poly versions as well as several wood colors.

Sculpted by the legendary Oddleifur, the personal craftsman of Olaf One-Eye, the Great Portal of Dragon Legacy was created to humble even the mightiest warriors, who would beg their audience as the mighty Jarl of Whiterun. To this day, it remains one of the wonders of Tamriel and the highlight of any visit to Skyrim.                                          Mikael, the Bard, Wandering in Skyrim This mod is a reworking of my previous Dragonsreach Grand Portal, and due to popular demand moved the monumental carving of the Urnes Stavkirk gate to the wall behind the Jarl's throne in Dragonsreach.

It is as close as I can see to being an exact copy of the doorway of Urnes Stavkirk Cathedral in Norway, carved around 1130AD; one of the finest surviving examples of Nordic wood carving. NOTE: No Christian iconography, so in no way friendly.

To make it fit behind the throne, I had to adjust the mesh to make it symmetrical and make some small modifications to the dais where the throne would sit.

There are a variety of wood color options, as well as two versions of the mesh: high polygon (approximately 290,000 triangles) and low polygon (approximately 4200 triangles). The high polygon mesh uses only flat wood textures and therefore only reacts to incoming light sources. The low-poly mesh uses pre-rendered shadows and highlights, but includes a high-resolution normal map that also responds to incoming lighting conditions.

I've included some comparison shots below to show the 2 mesh options, as well as a bunch of screenshots to help you choose the right wood color for your lighting setup. All screenshots are taken using vanilla lighting and textures only.

Install & use Install: follow the bundled instructions

  1. Unzip the archive from playbuff and read the bundled readme / instructions first.
  2. There is no universal mod manager for this game: some mods replace game files directly, some go into a game-specific Mods folder, and some need a game-specific community loader or tool first — follow the bundled readme.
  3. Place the files exactly as the readme says; mods with listed dependencies need those installed too.
  4. Launch the game to confirm it loaded; some games require enabling mods in settings or an in-game mod menu.

Install locations vary a lot between games and mods — the bundled readme is the most reliable guide.
