About this mod Machine translation
A small quest mod focused on expanding the "Message to Whiterun" Civil War quest and providing alternative ways to obtain certain tablets from certain ruins.
A quest mod focused on overhauling the "Message To Whiterun" quest.
If you have this mod enabled after "Dragon Rising", there isn't much to see here. Just an empty mission slot. That's because advancing the Civil War "Send a Message to Whiterun" quest requires vanilla to complete that portion of the main quest. With this mod this is no longer the case, you can play the Civil War questline without the Dragonborn and return to the main quest at any time later.
Additionally, you can convince Whiterun's jar to detach and join the Stormcloaks. This replaces the government deal with a new dynamic: Jarl Vignar versus Jarl Balgruuf: Jarl Balgruuf versus Jarl Hrongar! You can even have Hrongar take over if you complete Missing in Action,
All new dialogue is presented in vanilla lines and can be reused or spliced, except for some new characters who do not speak.
This mod adds a new location: the Tower, overlooking the labyrinth passages from high on the West Mountain.
To make it easier to handle compatibility, an optional "split" download is provided, where the parts related to Whiterun joining Stormcloaks are in separate ESP plugins - just pick the half that suits your mod!
The task of finally convincing Jarl Balgruuf to find someone else to do Farengar's little "dragon research project" began by talking to the new chef in the Whiterun Dragonsreach kitchen. The first part gives you the option to become a member of Whiterun through the usual favor quests as you normally would in most other Skyrim holdings. Skip the first part, it's enough to travel beyond Whiterun Keep and the settlement, then go back and ask the cook for any new insights into dragon research.
To convince jarl Balgruuf to join the Stormcloaks, interrupt him during the scene that starts with "Proventus, what do you think of all this? If Ulfric were to attack Whiterun...",

NOTE: The vanilla main quest "Dragon Rising" will never actually start if you tell the jarl that you should be looking for "a person, not an object" (this is a way to bypass the Civil War, but you can tell them even without doing the related Civil War quest). Even if you already have the Dragonstone and just talk to the Jarl instead of going to Farengar, it will be blocked from starting. If you're using Not So Fast-Main Quest, you may be confused with the lag introduced by this mod - so be aware. With this mod, you will have to turn in the Dragonstone, get a small reward from Falunga, discuss the reward with jarr, and then you will have another way to become a dragon.
Install & use Install: follow the bundled instructions
- Unzip the archive from playbuff and read the bundled readme / instructions first.
- There is no universal mod manager for this game: some mods replace game files directly, some go into a game-specific Mods folder, and some need a game-specific community loader or tool first — follow the bundled readme.
- Place the files exactly as the readme says; mods with listed dependencies need those installed too.
- Launch the game to confirm it loaded; some games require enabling mods in settings or an in-game mod menu.
Install locations vary a lot between games and mods — the bundled readme is the most reliable guide.
