Kailee is one of a group of fugitives on the run from a malevolent group who is owed money. They were poor before, but they were poor afterwards. Her father wanted to use the money to try and open a store in Solitude, but when it turned out they couldn't open on time for maintenance, they were left owed. So they ran away, shortly after Kailee's mother became pregnant. They managed to settle in High Rock and immediately fell into the poorest social class. They struggled to survive and raise their little girl, but they did their best.

Around Kailee's tenth birthday, her parents became seriously ill and died. She was left alone, but old enough that her parents taught her how to hunt, how to buy her own clothes from leather and furs, and how to make campfires. She doesn't know how she's going to manage, but she's sure the men looking for her father won't recognize her - she hasn't even been born yet. So she set out, gathered together what little gold she could find, bought herself a quiver, and set off. For many years she lived alone, traveling and visiting sights. She learned a lot of magic and swordsmanship. She studied the Dwemer and became immersed in their culture, growing up to support the Imperial Legion,

However, when she was nineteen, she expressed a strong desire to return to her hometown of Skyrim. And so she embarks on an adventure that will change her destiny forever. When she arrives, she is immediately captured by bandits who try to sell her into slavery. The newly formed gang hid their hideout in the ruins of Skyrim, and that's where they took her. She was transported to an unknown entrance, where it looked as if she was being dug out, and then they went deeper into the ground. However, after a long time, they were all attacked by Falmer, who made their residence in the dwarven underground tower! The bandits are all killed, but Kelly is knocked down by them and taken away.

When she arrives, she realizes that she has been enslaved to Falmer, forced to labor among the ancient ruins deep within Blackledge Cave. She worked every day for what seemed like years. Until one day, when there seems to be no hope, she notices that Falmer has dropped the key from his cuff, thus inhibiting her ability to use magic. When no one was looking, she took the key, opened the cuff, and ran for her life. She makes her way through Blackreach, but her kidnappers notice her missing and chase her when they see her running away. She barely reached one of the shafts that led her to the surface before she fled into Skyrim's snowy northern mountains. Her catch still gives chase, but it's not long before they retreat back to their underground dwelling.

Terrified, she headed west, searching for any prime place to live, fearing that at any moment, the Falmer Scouts would find her and drag her back into the depths. After a long journey on unfamiliar roads in her hometown, she manages to find signs pointing to Helgen, remembering that her father was born in Helgen. She was sure that, at least there, she would find comfort or a safe place and be able to get back on her feet. However, when she arrives, she finds the city destroyed by a dragon and knows there is only one thing she can do. Defending her people. She sought out the only group that could help her. The Imperial Legion will begin her journey to discover her true nature, purpose and destiny; she is the Dragonborn!
