About this mod Machine translation

Use the Guards Armor Replacer to replace your home armor with the armor used by their respective guards.

Notice

Anyone interested in porting this plugin to SSE is welcome to do so; I've uploaded a version without the USLEEP requirement to make the process (hopefully) simpler. I also invite anyone who uploads a successful port to just be sure to credit DanielUA for his work on the base mod.

describe

This is a small plugin provided by NordwarUA for Guards Armor Replacer (uploaded by DanielUA).

It replaces the armor of your household items with new guard helmets as their soldiers suit their stations. They will all wear heavy variants of their respective hand armor, as well as their protective gear. The only two exceptions are Rayya (Falkreath), who uses double scimitars, and Valdimar (Morthal), who doesn't use a shield since he's a wizard.

With one or two exceptions, the new armor has lower stats than the regular steel armor for family trucks, so the change was made with aesthetics in mind. However, the difference in quality isn't huge, so your minions won't be crippled by their new gear.

As of version 1.03, the weapons your family spawns vary based on your level. After a certain threshold, from housecarl to housecarl, depending on how easy they are to obtain, they will produce weapons of higher quality than standard steel. For example, if you become Whiterun above level 15, Jarl will entrust Eorlund Gray-Mane with a weapon to use as the new thane's housecarl. If you are not interested in these features, feel free to download v1.02.

Version

1.03: Replaced cart armor with helmets added to their inventory so players can use them freely. Depending on the player's level, Housecarls will randomly generate one-handed weapons of different qualities.

1.03a: Same as 1.03, but does not include helmets and provides household cosmetic headgear.

1.03b: Same as 1.03, but household item level weapons can be either one-handed or two-handed. This won't affect Rayya and Valdimar given their unique fighting styles.

1.02: Replaced household items with armor, but excluded helmets to avoid making them visible. Rayya kept her hat because it was part of her character.

1.02a: Same as 1.02, but given (in my opinion) household items for headgear. Spare poor Gregor Baldhead from Dawnstar's icy cold.

1.02b: Same as 1.02, but replaces the standard weapons from household items with random one-handed steel weapons (no daggers). Admittedly, this isn't a huge deal, but it will make your retinue more diverse. One of Rayya's guaranteed weapons is the scimitar.

Install

Standard fare, just put the esp into the data folder, or use your mod manager of choice and make sure it loads after the host.

Install & use Install: follow the bundled instructions

  1. Unzip the archive from playbuff and read the bundled readme / instructions first.
  2. There is no universal mod manager for this game: some mods replace game files directly, some go into a game-specific Mods folder, and some need a game-specific community loader or tool first — follow the bundled readme.
  3. Place the files exactly as the readme says; mods with listed dependencies need those installed too.
  4. Launch the game to confirm it loaded; some games require enabling mods in settings or an in-game mod menu.

Install locations vary a lot between games and mods — the bundled readme is the most reliable guide.
