Mastering a spell takes time. One who possesses Grimoire must always have a spellbook on hand to cast his spells until mastery is achieved. This means that after reading the book, you will learn the spell as normal. However, to equip this spell, you must have the same spell tome in your inventory until you master the spell. Each time you cast the spell, your mastery of the spell increases. The speed of mastering can be configured in the provided MCM. By default, a skill must be cast 100 times to reach mastery before being cast below or equal to the skill's skill level. Configurable skill bonuses will be applied when the skill's skill level is above.
Normally, the first time a spell tome is read, it is consumed and removed from the inventory. This no longer happens with Grimoire by default, but the behavior can be restored from MCM. Additionally, you can check the mastery status of any equipped spell in the MCM.
A spell tome can be read multiple times to learn the benefits of mastery. As you study the book, optional relevant animations will play and optionally elapse for a configurable number of hours.
If you have cast or learned a spell, you have the opportunity to gain an insight after sleeping. The base chance (3%) is configurable, with an additional 1% added for every 10 times the spell is cast or researched between sleeps.
Require
Requires Dragonborn and Dawnguard DLC and SKSE.
compatibility
All spells with corresponding tomes are available for immediate use.
Spells without domes are not affected by this mod.
Known issues
Flames and Healing Tomes will be added to your inventory when the mod is first initialized. Due to a race condition when OnInit runs twice, you may get multiple copies of these tomes.
When installing the mod mid-game, all known spells will be unaffected until their corresponding themes are read again. This isn't a problem just as a compatibility feature, but it can cause confusion.
Install & use Install: follow the bundled instructions
- Unzip the archive from playbuff and read the bundled readme / instructions first.
- There is no universal mod manager for this game: some mods replace game files directly, some go into a game-specific Mods folder, and some need a game-specific community loader or tool first — follow the bundled readme.
- Place the files exactly as the readme says; mods with listed dependencies need those installed too.
- Launch the game to confirm it loaded; some games require enabling mods in settings or an in-game mod menu.
Install locations vary a lot between games and mods — the bundled readme is the most reliable guide.
