About this mod Machine translation
Makes an NPC wander around like Talsgar. The initial purpose is to work on NPC followers that you download, allowing them to roam around the world.
This mod is a WIP
I'm submitting this as an issue for other ideas/feedback, before I take it any further and others may find it in current AI packages. It was requested anonymously and, although currently in limited status, should at least go some way toward fulfilling his request. This mod will add a variant spell to your character called "Haunt". I would be careful what you think of this guy. Once it's cast to an npc, there's no way to remove its package afaik (still working on it), the package is now permanently part of the npc. I wouldn't put this code on any NPCs that might affect missions and quests, but I suspect it will overrule its other AI packages. It only attaches to NPCs, so any quests or scenario packs should still take priority.
If you cast it on a mission-relevant character, I think the worst case scenario is that they might not be where they are at a specific time, and if that were to happen, just waiting an hour or two (or more depending on where they are in the world) should bring them to where they should be, because their search/scenario AI should be covering them, and they'll get to where they're supposed to be, and it might take them a while to get there.
The reason I didn't add this as a quest (at least for now) is that you can add as many NPCs as you want. Eventually this may change, which will limit the number of NPCs you can wander at the time, but the benefit of this is that we can keep track of who is wandering and disable packages as needed. When the mcm menu is added I will most likely modify it to be task based, but if people like this approach I might keep this very simplified version in the download.
Keep a few things in mind: if you send fighters out that aren't very capable, you might just send them off to die if they suddenly decide to roam outside the walls (their own AI might prevent them from leaving I guess), but it needs to be tested. Either way, it needs to be considered.
Some of the things I've noticed so far is that they just walk around and talk to people, dig, that kind of thing. Basically, they pick within 10,000 squares or whatever that number represents.
Now, just like Serana or followers will in many of the follower overhauls, they will interact with the world, ride horses, etc. You may find them in very unexpected places because they can open doors. For example, you might find an NPC wandering around another person's home. They might decide to use a chopping block on a dead camp and could get into trouble for it if their intelligence officers hadn't told them to be wary of such a situation.
I wouldn't recommend using it in your current game you only care about it at this point due to updates or unexpected behavior. Do whatever you want, but be aware that future updates will most likely require new games. If you don't care about this issue and are willing to take risks with where you place your npcs then I doubt this mod will affect your game, otherwise it just adds a new AI package to the npcs which depending on their current packaging stack may not even fire in the first place.
I wish this mod worked more on NPCs and had almost no AI packs attached to it. Namely: most generic NPC followers.
Install & use Install: follow the bundled instructions
- Unzip the archive from playbuff and read the bundled readme / instructions first.
- There is no universal mod manager for this game: some mods replace game files directly, some go into a game-specific Mods folder, and some need a game-specific community loader or tool first — follow the bundled readme.
- Place the files exactly as the readme says; mods with listed dependencies need those installed too.
- Launch the game to confirm it loaded; some games require enabling mods in settings or an in-game mod menu.
Install locations vary a lot between games and mods — the bundled readme is the most reliable guide.
