About this mod Machine translation

RUSTIC DAEDRA is a high-resolution reimagining of Skyrim's daedra. This includes the basic daedra (astronauts of fire, frost, and storm), as well as the Dragonborn daedra, lurkers, and seekers. Also included are Dawnguard Ancient Frost Viper and Dragonborn Gray Guard. Available in 4K and 2K textures.

This mod was previously called RUSTIC ATRONACHS, but with the addition of the last two Dragonborn daedra, all daedric creatures are now covered, so it seems more appropriate to rename the mod RUSTIC DAEDRA.

According to lore, these smaller daedra are supposed to be very intelligent, but their appearance doesn't provide any real evidence that this is true. As the saying goes, the eyes are the windows to the soul, and these creatures lack them. The head design of the Flame Skytron doesn't allow for any flames, but at least it has an animated flame effect that adds to the visual appeal. Frosted side dishes have depressions that indicate eye sockets but lack any other function. The astronaut in the storm had an animated mouth, the appearance of a nose, what looked like quintessential eyes and deep sunken eyes that could have been eyes, but were all stone.

It seems to me that if there is a place for eyes, why not make real eyes? Like the frostbite spider, Bethesda's artists didn't pay any attention to the eyes because detailed eyes would give one character and a sense of intelligence behind them. For obvious reasons, I didn't add any eyes to the flaming Atronach, but made new high-resolution textures for the animation effects.

Adding eyes to the frosted custard gives it a more threatening feel than ever before. Unfortunately, if you're using a mod that makes Frosty Cream more transparent, you won't be able to see the eyes properly. You'll only get the shape of the eye, but the refraction mesh will make the outer texture too transparent to clearly see the eye in game. Therefore, textures are best used with vanilla meshes. Dawnguard Ancient Frost Herbs have different meshes so the look isn't limited to the texture itself.

Now, with the hole in his head ruptured, Storm's astronaut's eyes squinted, and the eyes made no sense in that position. Still, having only one eye gives Storm Dadra more personality. I also modified two lighting effects textures since the original image was a bit rough.

Dragonbone Ash Keeper is based on Dust from the Storm, but it doesn't have any other effects other than the Dust Cloud. I didn't eyeball anything for this creature because the mesh repeated parts of the texture, making it impractical. Generally, I try to stick to texture changes to make my mod as versatile as possible. I only change the mesh when absolutely necessary, but that's the case with Ash Keeper. For some unknown reason, Bethesda didn't give the creature a matching normal map, instead borrowing one from the landscape folder. Now, obviously a lot of people are using replacement mods for landscape textures, so people will be using different normals that don't match the diffuse texture I created. So I made a matching normal map and edited the mesh to use it.

I spent a lot of time adding details to these three basic elements to make them more interesting to encounter in the game. Hopefully people will enjoy my latest addition to Skyrim's RUSTIC textures.

Available in 4K and 2K textures. Choose the one that best suits your setup.

Install & use Install: follow the bundled instructions

  1. Unzip the archive from playbuff and read the bundled readme / instructions first.
  2. There is no universal mod manager for this game: some mods replace game files directly, some go into a game-specific Mods folder, and some need a game-specific community loader or tool first — follow the bundled readme.
  3. Place the files exactly as the readme says; mods with listed dependencies need those installed too.
  4. Launch the game to confirm it loaded; some games require enabling mods in settings or an in-game mod menu.

Install locations vary a lot between games and mods — the bundled readme is the most reliable guide.
