About this mod Machine translation
Mator Smash is a tool for generating conflict resolution patches, similar to Wrye Bash's Bashed patches.
Smash is able to handle conflicts in all record types.
Overview
Characters, items, quests, music tracks, prepared lists, weather, magic effects, etc. are all represented as records in plugin files. When multiple mods modify the same record, the game will only use the changes from the last loaded mod (with some exceptions). This is called uniformity. Many plugin patches combine changes from multiple mods to resolve conflicts, but it is impossible to create and distribute patches for every possible combination of conflicting mods. This is where tools like Mator Smash come into the picture. MatorSmash allows conflict resolution patches to be generated according to rules. This allows users to combine edits from multiple mods quickly and efficiently.
Smash cannot completely replace manual conflict resolution patching. After generating your patch, verify your patch in xEdit and make any necessary changes where smash's conflict resolution is insufficient.
Install
Mator Smash is a utility, which means it should not be installed through your Mod Manager or the game's data folder. Instead, you should manually download the archive and extract it into a folder. Install smash into its own folder in Program Files, or wherever your modding tools are installed.
Note: Since Mator Smash has a configuration file system, there is no need to install the program multiple times.
Basic usage
- Start Mator Smash. If you are using Mod Organizer, you should start shredding through Mod Organizer.
- Select the profile for the game you want to create a crush patch for. If the configuration file is not automatically created for your game, you can create it manually.
- Select the plugins you want to load into Smash. You can only load up to 254 add-ons, since Smash cannot activate more than 255 add-ons (the final add-on slot will be used by the patch you generate). If you have more than 254 plugins, you should merge some.
- Click the Quick Fix (green arrow) button.
- Close the program.
- Use xEdit to verify your patch and fix any issues manually.
NOTE: If you are using MO, you will need to create a new mod by overwriting the pseudo-mod unless the override target directory is set to MO's mods folder.
If you add or remove plugins from the load order, you will need to repeat this process to update the smashed patch plugin files.
Other instructions for use
-Mator Smash does not work with any other conflict resolution patches.
- After generating the smashed patch, run other patches (DynDOLOD, SkyProc, UPF, etc.). Do not load these patch files when generating a shattered patch.
Install & use Install: follow the bundled instructions
- Unzip the archive from playbuff and read the bundled readme / instructions first.
- There is no universal mod manager for this game: some mods replace game files directly, some go into a game-specific Mods folder, and some need a game-specific community loader or tool first — follow the bundled readme.
- Place the files exactly as the readme says; mods with listed dependencies need those installed too.
- Launch the game to confirm it loaded; some games require enabling mods in settings or an in-game mod menu.
Install locations vary a lot between games and mods — the bundled readme is the most reliable guide.
