About this mod Machine translation

If you're like me, you were disappointed by Skyrim's cooking features. This mod makes you want to use cooking mechanics in the game to eat the food you make. After all, real food doesn't stop helping as you get older, so why should it stop helping as you get older?

If you're like me, you were disappointed with the cooking features in the vanilla version of Skyrim. By level 5, food is out of date, and you spend the rest of the levels wandering around the world, ignoring food and drink even as you lament their potential usefulness. It's even worse if you choose not to play as an alchemist, as you can only find potions in dungeons and shopkeepers. Then there are the realism mods – tons of add-ons designed to make food relevant again by making you “need” to eat it.

This mod has different methods. Its purpose is to make you want to use the cooking mechanics in the game and eat the food you produce. Cooking Matters also combines many alchemical ingredients that make sense in a cooking setting and allows the effects of these ingredients to work in your foods and potions. All existing recipes have been adapted to suit experience levels 1-15, and many new recipes have been added, designed to provide a balanced experience from level 1 to level 50 and beyond. After all, real food doesn't stop helping as you get older, so why should it stop helping as you get older?

notes:

This mod does not replace or diminish the role of alchemy in the game. It's simply an alternative for those who prefer to play as a non-alchemist but still want to take advantage of the rich rewards Skyrim has to offer.

There is no efficient way to scale health/stamina/mecca recovery levels to player level. I solved this by making food increase the character's base regeneration speed by one second, which returns 20% of the maximum amount. This creates a weaker experience than built-in potions and their level approximation capabilities. However, it makes for some very interesting project descriptions. Please don’t doubt the huge number!

Big thanks to CaptainRC and his "Become a Milk Drinker" mod for coming up with the juice idea. I do have plans to update this mod in the future to incorporate milk with some of his ideas, but I'm holding off on designing until I figure out how to make it harvestable from cows!

=-= Update released on November 27, 2017 - Ported from Workshop to =-=

Completed and enriched base game food overhaul.

Some existing food items and recipes have been redesigned to more closely align with the underlying design philosophy.

Still to be solved: Improved quality of life, more recipes for default unprocessable foods and drinks (like long toffee treats, white gold towers, etc.).

Known issues:

Yes, 4000% a second still looks dumb and makes the text on some items very small. Unfortunately, there's no way to solve this problem if your goal is a scalable meal.

Fiery Clams' model is mistakenly a fish steak. Unless I'm really bored, I probably won't solve this problem.

None of the recipes introduced in Hearthfire, Dawnguard, or Legend of the Dragon have been changed. This may change in future updates.

Install & use Install: follow the bundled instructions

  1. Unzip the archive from playbuff and read the bundled readme / instructions first.
  2. There is no universal mod manager for this game: some mods replace game files directly, some go into a game-specific Mods folder, and some need a game-specific community loader or tool first — follow the bundled readme.
  3. Place the files exactly as the readme says; mods with listed dependencies need those installed too.
  4. Launch the game to confirm it loaded; some games require enabling mods in settings or an in-game mod menu.

Install locations vary a lot between games and mods — the bundled readme is the most reliable guide.
