Detailed description:

I'm keeping the effectiveness, value and healing properties in line with vanilla foods, so there are no strong points here. For recipes that use mostly food ingredients, I base my effects on vanilla food ingredients. However, for recipes that contain multiple alchemical ingredients, I would consider the effects more carefully, so that some recipes (especially omelettes, fish soup, and bacon (not so much tea)) produce the same effect as a brewed potion weakened with the same ingredients. Now, non-alchemist characters can gain modest benefits from ingredients that also happen to be regular foods. However, the alchemical properties of salt were ignored. (See the FAQ if you're worried about why.) A handful of recipes have effects that aren't necessarily justified by alchemical ingredients, but can either be justified by Tamrilic's lore (looking for some amnesia cures) or real-world folklore or folk medicine (seems like a good fit for Skyrim). Of course, most foods, regardless of their ingredients, have health-restoring effects, as this is an effect shared by nearly all foods in the base game.

When choosing alchemical ingredients for use in various recipes, I limit myself to herbs, berries, mushrooms, eggs, and other things that might reasonably be expected to taste good. No ground claws or feathers or anything like that. This is cooking, not alchemy.

I started because I wanted to add more non-alcoholic beverages to the game, other than the rare milk cans introduced with the Hearthfire DLC. Then I added some food and drink. I then decided to copy the recipe from the game book "Uncommon Taste and Chaurus Pie: The Cookbook" as faithfully as possible. I then try to fill in the gaps where the game is missing recipes or doesn't use specific ingredients. Then I kept adding more and more recipes, just for fun. However, I kept the vast majority of the knowledge from all the recipes without being too fancy, although there are a few fancy bells and whistles. A few complex two-part recipes must be started in a pot and finished in the oven. You Can Blame Chaurus Pie: A recipe that sent me down that dark path.

Recipes that require a hearth oven are marked as such. Otherwise, a standard cooking pot will be used.

New recipes for previously unprocessable vanilla foods and ingredients:

Honey

Ingredients: 3 honeycombs

Why? Honey is rare! I need some way to generate it.

long toffee

Ingredients: 1 honey + 1 butter + 1 snowberry (yields 2 toffees)

Why? Skyrim's toffee is pink, so I thought it might be snowberry flavored.

grilled leeks

Ingredients: 1 leek + 1 salt pile

Why? Bandits cook these on stoves with random dungeons. It's not difficult.

baked potatoes

Ingredients: 1 potato + 1 butter + 1 goat cheese wedge + 1 mound of salt

Why? Baked potatoes in Skyrim look like they're covered in butter a …

Install & use Install: follow the bundled instructions

  1. Unzip the archive from playbuff and read the bundled readme / instructions first.
  2. There is no universal mod manager for this game: some mods replace game files directly, some go into a game-specific Mods folder, and some need a game-specific community loader or tool first — follow the bundled readme.
  3. Place the files exactly as the readme says; mods with listed dependencies need those installed too.
  4. Launch the game to confirm it loaded; some games require enabling mods in settings or an in-game mod menu.

Install locations vary a lot between games and mods — the bundled readme is the most reliable guide.
