Cockatoos are large flying chimeras that resemble dragon-billed roosters or chicks created by powerful alchemists. They are an abomination to nature.

The eggs must be incubated for forty-four days by a toad or snake, which once hatched is devoured by the little beast, but the process is certainly more complicated.

4 variants do exist, of which Alpha Cockatrice and Cockatrice Matriarch are particularly dangerous, the other 2 are regular Cockcatrice and Male Cockatrice.

They can be encountered in River Mountains, but some also appear in Eastmarch and Rift.

Basilisks are said to be upside-down roosters that hatch snake/toad eggs, and are common in Barrenwood. Although similar in approach, the basilisk is completely different, resembling a terrifying giant legless flying snake monster.
