About this mod Machine translation
The player is given a series of books that tell you what ingredients are needed to achieve a given alchemical effect, and where to find specific ingredients.
tldr
Players are provided with 13 books for strategic alchemical foraging.
Volumes 1-7 list all alchemical actions and their ingredients.
Volumes 8-13 list all the ingredients and tell you where to find them.
The zEdit patch changes the book's text to accommodate changes made by other mods.
summary
Vanilla Alchemy draws players inexorably into a boring gameplay style where you harvest every ingredient you find whether you actually want it or not, so there's no need to actually learn to find and identify specific ingredients. Pick Your Poison changes that by providing an in-game crafting guide that supports strategic and thoughtful alchemical foraging. These 13 volume sets are added to your inventory, letting you know what ingredients are needed for any given effect, where to find them, and what they look like. None of this tells you the four alchemical powers of each ingredient - so no cheating!
The first 8 volumes list all the ingredients, divided into 8 categories, telling you where to find them and what they look like. 1: Animal area
Volume 2: Fish
roll. 3: Flora
roll. 4: flower
roll. 5: Fungi
Volume 6: Insects
Volume 7: Miscellaneous Notes
Volume 8: Supernatural
The remaining 5 volumes list all alchemical effects and which ingredients provide them:
roll. 9: Defense: Mage & Rogue
roll. 10: Fortification: Warriors and Miscellaneous
roll. 11: Treatment and Resistance
roll. 12: Poison
Volume 13: Weakness and Manipulation
Example
Let's say you're playing an assassin and want to stock up on some health-damaging poison. Your first step is to open "Choose Poisons, Volume 12: Poisons", whose first item deals with health-destroying poisons and tells you the ingredients you need:
destroy health
Fauna: Falmer ears, curved tail, small antlers, troll fat,
Fish: Betty River,
Flora: crimson nigan, ninnroot,
Flowers: Dead Bell, Nightshade, Poison Bloom, Red Mountain Flower,
Fungus: urinal stool,
Supernatural: cysts, human flesh, human hearts, empty salt
The ingredients are divided into categories corresponding to "Poison" volumes 1-8. Let's say you decide to find some stools first. So now you open "Pick Your Poison, Volume 5: Fungi" and look for the pee stool:
Imp Stool
Stout cream steamed into a steam cap with a yellow dome. Found in caves throughout Skyrim.
With this, you can now explore the caves and look for yellow mushrooms.

Install
There are two ways to install this mod. By default, these books describe vanilla's ingredients and effects, and their titles are abbreviated to fit nicely into the narrow vanilla user interface. If you're happy with this, use method 1. If you use a mod or extension UI that changes the composition (such as SkyUI), you can use method 2 to run a patch to modify the books accordingly. Using either method, the books will be added to your inventory when you start a new game or load an existing save.
Method 1- Vanilla ingredients and shorter book titles.
Download and install the mod. Activate esp in load order. Finish!
Method 2- Modify the ingredients and/or make the title longer.
Note that this method will not work if you are using MO1 as your module manager, as MO1 cannot launch zEdit (MO2 is fine and recommended).
Patches currently working on ingredient change modules:
Alchemy, potions and food adjustments
A complete alchemy and cooking overhaul (although some ingredient instructions are missing - too many!)

Install & use Install: follow the bundled instructions
- Unzip the archive from playbuff and read the bundled readme / instructions first.
- There is no universal mod manager for this game: some mods replace game files directly, some go into a game-specific Mods folder, and some need a game-specific community loader or tool first — follow the bundled readme.
- Place the files exactly as the readme says; mods with listed dependencies need those installed too.
- Launch the game to confirm it loaded; some games require enabling mods in settings or an in-game mod menu.
Install locations vary a lot between games and mods — the bundled readme is the most reliable guide.
