v1.31 now available - bug fixes for hold (quick) mode
I'm playing with the controller, and I'm enjoying walking to hear my surroundings and see the sights. I don't like bumping into things when indoors and having all the NPCs yell at me for knocking things over. It just breaks the immersion, so whether you're slowly walking around a house or walking in a city, this mod can help you in any situation.
The script was originally written by chinagreenelvis, who wanted it to be in the public domain, so rather than re-proposing the walking switching logic, I decided to refactor his script. I like the way he does it, but he's executing some weird code. The script in the beginning was lightweight, but now it's more efficient than before, but of course you won't notice because it's a small script that the cpu eats for breakfast, no matter how much I refactor ;)
This mod should be compatible with everything, it will override just note that this script is manipulating the player's "speedmult", so any other scripts that rely on changing "speedmult" may conflict.
In order to switch walks, you need to do the same thing as in his script, which is double-clicking the Shout button (RB/R1). Remember to unequip any shouting abilities to avoid spamming. Clicking the right joystick (changing perspective) will disable walking. He has this feature so I decided to keep it. However, these options are customizable and you can set the input at any time.
What I added:
- Edit walking speed in MCM - In MCM
Edit run speed - in MCM
Map new button
- 4 different input modes - in MCM
Option to disable walking on weapons
- Switch messages in MCM - in
Troubleshooting... You should never get stuck if your pace is switched and it becomes too clumsy.
- If you are attacked (hit by a weapon) walking will be disabled.
-Optimization of original logic.
If you like the mod, please don't forget to endorse chinagreenelvis and my refactored version!
Install:
Install using mod manager...done...or put WalkToggle.esp and scripts folder into Skyrim\Data directory
uninstall:
Start by removing the installed files using your Mod Manager or manually. There is 1 esp file in data (WalkToggle.esp), 3 pex scripts (Walk *.pex) in data\scripts, and 3 psc source scripts (Walk *.psc) in data\scripts\source to be deleted. Also note that this mod will leave an orphan script in your save game... After removing this mod, first save your game and then alt+tab to exit the game. Now, run the Save Game Cleanup Tool on the save file you just created. The save will now have an orphaned script, which you should remove from the file before loading again. I use +Tab to go back to your game and load the modified save file. The mod has now been uninstalled.
Install & use Install: follow the bundled instructions
- Unzip the archive from playbuff and read the bundled readme / instructions first.
- There is no universal mod manager for this game: some mods replace game files directly, some go into a game-specific Mods folder, and some need a game-specific community loader or tool first — follow the bundled readme.
- Place the files exactly as the readme says; mods with listed dependencies need those installed too.
- Launch the game to confirm it loaded; some games require enabling mods in settings or an in-game mod menu.
Install locations vary a lot between games and mods — the bundled readme is the most reliable guide.
