About this mod Machine translation
The hood is automatically equipped when the weapon is drawn and unequipped when sheathed.
Inspired by track1044's auto-rig - with customization, I played with it for a while until I realized all I wanted was helmet functionality. Been searching for a while but couldn't find anything so decided to write this little mod myself. Honestly, such a simple mod doesn't exist yet.
Now with follower support!
Install:
Like other mods, use mod manager or put in data folder
How to use:
Wait for the MCM menu to appear
Equip the helmet you want to wear in battle
Go into MCM and set it as a battle headgear
This helmet will now be equipped when drawing a weapon (if it is not already installed).
When sheathing, it will not come with any headgear (on the hairpin slot).
Optionally set up a non-combat headgear (for example, a wig) and wear it after putting on the helmet.
Either
Enable this option to remember what was equipped before the weapon was drawn, and once the weapon is sheathed, the weapon will be re-equipped with what it was equipped before.
To have a follower automatically equip/unequip a helmet, have the follower equip the desired battle helmet, enter the MCM, select "Scan for new follower", exit the menu, draw and wrap.
The functions of the automatic equipment protection function are as follows:
When putting on your player jacket, check to see if it has a shield, if so, unequip it and remember it.
When a player draws, check to see if there is something in the left hand, if not, put on the remembered shield.
All MCM needs to do is turn on the unequip shield option, no scanning or anything else.
Updated from older version:
Just overwrite, no need to uninstall
However please note that when updating the mod will clear all previous headgear settings, this is for consistency
So just go into the MCM again and reset the battle headgear
uninstall:
Go into MCM and select uninstall option
Make sure the auto-equip feature is stopped
save
Exit and uninstall the mod
Known issues:
If you launch the new default Helgen game after installing the mod, the mod will not register correctly. The alternate launch works fine, only the original Helgen intro scene has issues. Solved? After enabling the player's combat controls, install the mod. (The part where the cord at the wrist is cut). Another option is to clear the stall completely. Play it, save again, and reinstall.
Change history:
Version 1.1 adds the option of equipping unequipped equipment
Version 2.0 now works with tiaras and tiaras
Version 3.0 now includes follower support
Version 4.1 fixes conversion bug, adds option to unequip shield on sheath
Version 4.2 will now re-equip the previous shield when drawing the weapon. (Only if your left hand is empty)
A small fix in version 4.4 to check if there is indeed a shield in the inventory, and also delays equipping the shield for better animations
Frequently Asked Questions:
How's the performance? This is a very lightweight mod that only adds a small script that runs on the weapon draw or sheath. I've personally run over 200 modded Skyrim with fps hovering around 30, so performance means a lot to me.
What is the difference between this mod and auto-equipped helmet?
This mod not only unequips, but also equips another piece, such as a frost shield
This mod relies on the player to set up the combat helmet/headgear without trying to guess it (another mod would sometimes go wrong, like when you just temporarily put on a rain shield or a glamor headgear)
As long as there is any equipment, other mods will run, onEquip is an event that has been written by a large number of combat mods and Requiem. This mod only runs on sheaths and pulls.
Install & use Install: follow the bundled instructions
- Unzip the archive from playbuff and read the bundled readme / instructions first.
- There is no universal mod manager for this game: some mods replace game files directly, some go into a game-specific Mods folder, and some need a game-specific community loader or tool first — follow the bundled readme.
- Place the files exactly as the readme says; mods with listed dependencies need those installed too.
- Launch the game to confirm it loaded; some games require enabling mods in settings or an in-game mod menu.
Install locations vary a lot between games and mods — the bundled readme is the most reliable guide.
