The in-game book provides very brief descriptions of nearly all of the original map locations, divided by map icon type. It would be great if map markers were disabled!

Geographica Skyrim and Solstheim

Version 0.95

(author:

Anubis_Priest)

The dragons were walking in solitude when they happened to be next to a guard.

Longbourn: "Excuse me, where can I find a job?"

Lone Guard, "The road to Whiterun is not safe these days. South of Dragon Bridge, many travelers...have disappeared. No trace of them can be found."

Long Sheng: "What is that? What is the depth of the cold wind? Do you understand? "

Lone Guard: "I was once an adventurer like you.

Long Bowen: "Great! Did it take you to the Cold Wind Abyss?"

Lone Guard: "Until I hit an arrow..."

Dragonborn: "So, what do your knees have to do with Chillwind Depths?"

Lone Guard: "Stop smiling!" [The guard walks away]

Dragonborn Thoughts: "Silly Guard, good thing I have Skyrim Geographica.... Let's see, Chillwind Depths is a cave... In the first volume... it says...

ChillwindDepths - A cave south of Dragon Bridge, on the border of Hjaalmarch and The Reach. . . Nothing. It's no use, Dangit!

After exploring the Wind Abyss, Dragonborn thought: "That place is a bit mundane: Falmer... good loot... not much to say about this place... as much as Skyrim Geography, I guess!"

An uncompromising explanation (kinda):

Some poor amateur scribes working 10 to 12 hours a day in the White Gold Tower archives decided to spend the rest of the day compiling and drastically shortened the adventure of all the information they had uncovered. The province of Skyrim and the island of Solstheim. Scribe was able to shorten Solstheim to one volume and Skyrim to four volumes, unofficially releasing them at the end of 4E 200

describe:

These are four books for Skyrim and one for Solstheim, giving you little notes and details on almost every location on the main map so you can gather basic information without leaving the game. This does not include extensive notes on the city, as there are already gaming books (such as The Gentleman's Guide to Whitelawn) that cover this.

It only uses Skyrim assets and does not require any other extensions, even though the text in the book assumes you have all extensions and official updates. Anywhere in the expansion you'll notice it's Hearthfire from (HF) or Dawnguard from (DG).

It does not include any mod locations or changes, including unofficial patches.

It includes some quest descriptions, including those you jump into directly, some quests that don't appear in the journal, and some quest descriptions in special locations. It also includes the locations of all Word Walls, all Priest Priest Masks, all Bugs in Jars, all Barenziah Gems, and the 22 Solstheim Pendants (they are in that location, not the exact direction).

I also have some personal notes from the locations. Please note: This is my personal opinion and speculation.

Version:

0.96 - Initial release. Copy and paste from a text editor. (no longer available)

0.98 – Minor changes based on unwanted words, spell check, etc. Added monument. (no longer available)

1.0 – Claws added, final changes: final version.

file:

GeographicaReadMe.txt

Install:

Go into the Skyrim Data directory or use the mod manager.

upgrade:

Since these are just books, I never plan to change the cover and/or position of the books, so you should be able to simply overwrite the file and it will change to the new text in-game. This is my process for creating new versions.

Get them:

There are four Skyrim books in the Sleeping Giant Inn in the double bedroom under the table on the floor.

Windhelm There is a Solstheim book on the rock above the brazier on the dock.

In the Academy of Winterhold next to Urag go-Shub's desk are the four Skyrim and Solstheim books.

You can also open the console and type

help geoa

to get the book codes to add them this way.

Install & use Install: follow the bundled instructions

  1. Unzip the archive from playbuff and read the bundled readme / instructions first.
  2. There is no universal mod manager for this game: some mods replace game files directly, some go into a game-specific Mods folder, and some need a game-specific community loader or tool first — follow the bundled readme.
  3. Place the files exactly as the readme says; mods with listed dependencies need those installed too.
  4. Launch the game to confirm it loaded; some games require enabling mods in settings or an in-game mod menu.

Install locations vary a lot between games and mods — the bundled readme is the most reliable guide.
