About this mod Machine translation
ABA deactivates buttons and moves interactive text away from the center of the screen. The full version also has the ability to move the stealth indicator.
Like many other players, I've always been troubled by the fact that the HUD always obscures the screen too much.
Skyrim is a very beautiful game, and when I play it I'd rather look at the scenery than at widgets that constantly present me with information that I rarely need to know. A great "immersive" HUD would solve most of these problems, but so far I haven't found one that pops up an activation/interaction message in every run more than the middle of the screen you might interact with. The only content my searches returned were similar complaints from other players, but no solutions were found. It wasn’t until a few months ago that I discovered a wonderful article: A guide to modifying the HUD in your game,
and took me to this video: How to Edit the HUD and Map Menu, which led me to create this mod.
It removes the activation button and moves the activation messages away from the center of the screen, where I can easily ignore them if I need to, or glance at them if I want to know the name of the person I'm looking at. , or if the object is free or belongs to someone, etc.
EDIT (December 2018) - I made some changes, what was previously FullABA is now ABA Basic - it only affects the "Activate" message. The new ABA full does this and also moves the stealth indicator to the lower left corner.
If these features are interesting to you, but you want more, you can check out:
Stealth Meter Tweak - It allows you to pass the MCM menu and
iActivate moves the stealth rangefinder to wherever you want - last time I checked it didn't do anything with the placement of activation messages, but it gives you a few options to modify their content.
_____________________________________________________
How I did it - by modifying a few records in the hudmenu.gfx file. Check out the guide on how it works, and view the images to see which records were modified and how.
(Completing the changes and properly saving the gfxfontlib.swf file requires inclusion - not mentioned in either guide, so may just be a quirk of my PC).
ABA should be compatible with most HUD mods. It's definitely iHUD compatible - I checked and the transparency of the stealth meter can be changed in the iHUD MCM menu while ABA is fully running.
There is a good rule of thumb - if you are asked to overwrite any files - don't! There shouldn't be any loose hudmenu files in the Skyrim folder. If there was, it would have been put there by another mod, and overwriting it would break the one you're already using. If you want to retain the functionality of both modules, you can edit the existing hudmenu.gfx following the above guidelines and image information.
Install & use Install: follow the bundled instructions
- Unzip the archive from playbuff and read the bundled readme / instructions first.
- There is no universal mod manager for this game: some mods replace game files directly, some go into a game-specific Mods folder, and some need a game-specific community loader or tool first — follow the bundled readme.
- Place the files exactly as the readme says; mods with listed dependencies need those installed too.
- Launch the game to confirm it loaded; some games require enabling mods in settings or an in-game mod menu.
Install locations vary a lot between games and mods — the bundled readme is the most reliable guide.
