Texture Parser
🎯 **A smart assistant tool specially built for texture replacement modules**
Module Introduction
This mod started out as a personal tool for me to find textures I wanted to edit and replace. While not a complete or fully functional project, it's still a very handy and useful tool if you plan on using the Silk Song Customizer or other texture replacement mods.
---
✨ Core Functions
- **Automatically parse textures**: parse and save most textures (UI elements, objects, characters, etc.) as PNG files when the scene is loaded
- **Smart Category Management**: Organize textures into properly named folders, ready for use in texture replacement mods
- **Avoid duplicate exports**: Reduce loading time through caching mechanism (forced replacement can be enabled in the configuration file or in the BepInEx configuration menu)
🎮 How it works
- **Game Start** - Start the Silk Song game normally
- **Scene Loading** - When the first scene (menu, level, or area) loads, the game requests all the textures needed for that scene
- **TEXTURE CAPTURE** - Mod automatically intercepts textures as they are loaded into memory
- **Local Save** - Each captured texture is immediately saved as a PNG file to the output directory and organized into corresponding folders by game texture collection name
- **Gameplay** - As you move between levels or revisit areas, new scenes load and the mod captures any textures that have not been saved yet
- **NO DUPE** - Exported textures are skipped to save time
**Effect**: Just by playing the game normally and traversing different scenes, you can gradually build up a library of textures - ready for use with customizer mods or manual editing.
---
⚠️ Current Limitations
- **Background Texture**: Currently cannot parse environment textures such as walls, terrain, or large backgrounds
- **Scene Selection**: Cannot select a specific scene from the menu - requires manual access to the area to collect its textures
📥 Installation Guide
- Install BepInEx (v.5 version)
- Run the game once to create the 'plugins' folder
- Extract the .dll file to the '\Steam\steamapps\common\Hollow Knight Silksong\BepInEx\plugins\' directory
- **(OPTIONAL)** Install BepInEx Configuration Manager for easy access to configuration in game
📁 Output file
All parsed textures are saved as PNG files located at: '\Hollow Knight Silksong\Hollow Knight Silksong_Data\Mods\Texture Parser\Output\'
Each collection has its own sub-folder containing properly named textures.
🔧 Troubleshooting
**Mod cannot be loaded at all**
- Make sure BepInEx is installed correctly and working properly
- Verify that the module's .dll file is placed in the '\BepInEx\plugins\' folder
- Check the BepInEx log file (BepInEx/LogOutput.log) for errors related to this module
**No textures in output directory**
- Double check that the mod.dll file is in the correct folder
- Press F1 in game to check if the mod is enabled (only if configuration manager is installed)
**Still have questions? **
- Post your question in the posts/comments section of the mod page, including a copy of the LogOutput.log file to help diagnose the issue
💡 Usage Tips
**Performance Note**
- When starting up for the first time or loading a large scene for the first time, it may take about 20 seconds to process the main texture. After that, the caching mechanism keeps it fast and smooth
- Works well with teleportation mods for faster scene switching and large-scale texture dumps
**Future Plans**
- Discover how to dump *all* game textures, including backgrounds
- Added scene selection system to avoid manual access
**How to stop using**
- If you are done using the tool, simply disable it fro …
Install & use Install: follow the bundled instructions
- Unzip the archive from playbuff and read the bundled readme / instructions first.
- There is no universal mod manager for this game: some mods replace game files directly, some go into a game-specific Mods folder, and some need a game-specific community loader or tool first — follow the bundled readme.
- Place the files exactly as the readme says; mods with listed dependencies need those installed too.
- Launch the game to confirm it loaded; some games require enabling mods in settings or an in-game mod menu.
Install locations vary a lot between games and mods — the bundled readme is the most reliable guide.
