Mod Engine
About this mod Machine translation
[The game cannot be played because I found the version Xiao Mo posted (steam 1.05) and found that the original author has updated multiple versions and supports the annual version]
If you have any questions, please leave a comment and I will continue to update it.
***Important information about Sekiro Patch 1.05***
I recently released Mod Engine 0.1.14 which supports Sekiro 1.05. Note that this only fixes the mod engine, not mods that may be incompatible with Sekiro 1.05. Before reporting an issue, please make sure the mod you are using is compatible with 1.05, as many of the issues you may encounter are actually from incompatible mods.
***Important information about Sekiro Patch 1.03/1.04***
Mod Engine 0.1.11 has been released, officially supporting Sekiro 1.03. Since the exe is unchanged, it also supports 1.04. Technically, 0.1.10 is compatible with the latest patches, but 0.1.11 officially blesses the new patches, so you won't see the startup warning anymore. This update also attempts to fix Mod Engine add-on issues that some users have reported. Some mods may be incompatible with new patches, such as the gameparam mod. Please follow the mod creator to update these mods.
Mod Engine is an injection DLL library that makes it easy to modify Sekiro game files and is super safe. Gone are the days of having to use UXM and extract gigabytes worth of game files to play mods. Mod Engine supports any mod that relies on file editing, including grooming, texture, parametric, and map mods. The process of playing the Sekiro mod is very simple, just create a folder, put the modified files and modify the ini file to point to the mod directory.
The MOD engine only supports the steam version of SEKIRO 1.02-1.04 in this current version. Other or unencrypted versions may not work and are not supported. Please do not report any issues other than retail SEKIRO 1.02-1.04. If there is a patch on SEKIRO, I will update the MOD engine in time.
Install:
- Copy dinput8.dll and modengine.ini to your Sekiro directory (for a default installation, usually located in C:\Program Files (x86)\steam\steamapps\common\Sekiro)
- Extract or copy the mod files you installed into a new and unique directory within the Sekiro directory. For example, if you have mods installed, you should create a directory called "mods" in Sekiro and copy all files (parts, info, maps, events, etc.) into that directory.
- Open modengine.ini and modify the modOverrideDirectory parameter to the folder where the mod will be installed (currently requires the '\' character). The default is "\mods" but you can change it to something else if you wish.
modOverrideDirectory="\mods"
- Enjoy your mod. If you want to play other mods, change the modOverrideDirectory setting to point to a different folder with a different mod. To uninstall, delete or rename dinput8.dll.
NOTE: Some mods may include their own modengine.ini that enables special settings required for the mod to function. In this case, follow its instructions and use its modengine.ini file as listed here.
Function:
*File overlay allows you to play any file-based mod without extracting game saves or patching exe files
*Skip the logo when launching the game to get into the game faster
*Chain loading other dinput8.dll mods
troubleshooting:
*If you encounter asset loss, please update to 0.1.11. This time I should solve this problem more flexibly by rewriting a lot of path resolution logic.
*Make sure there is a directory called "mods" in the Sekiro directory and that the game files are copied directly into it (i.e. menus, widgets, etc.)
*For texture mod/model swapping of characters, make sure the modified file (*.partsbnd.dcx) is located in mods\parts. For some mods, you may need to create a mods folder.
*Ultrawide and fps unlocked exes are not supported and they may not work properly. The recommended way to unlock fps and enable ultrawide is to use this mod: https://www..com/sekiro/mods/13. This requires no exe modification and …
Install & use Install: follow the bundled instructions
- Unzip the archive from playbuff and read the bundled readme / instructions first.
- There is no universal mod manager for this game: some mods replace game files directly, some go into a game-specific Mods folder, and some need a game-specific community loader or tool first — follow the bundled readme.
- Place the files exactly as the readme says; mods with listed dependencies need those installed too.
- Launch the game to confirm it loaded; some games require enabling mods in settings or an in-game mod menu.
Install locations vary a lot between games and mods — the bundled readme is the most reliable guide.
