The Leopard 2 is a main battle tank developed by Krauss-Maffei in the 1970s for the West German army. The tank first entered service in 1979 and succeeded the earlier Leopard 1 as the German Army's main battle tank. It is armed with a 120mm smoothbore cannon and is powered by a V-12 twin-turbo diesel engine. Various versions are available to the German Armed Forces and 12 other European countries, as well as several non-European countries, including Iran
Canada, Chile, Indonesia, Singapore and Türkiye. The Leopard 2 is used with German forces in Kosovo and in operations in Afghanistan, where Denmark and Canada contribute to the International Security Assistance Force, and in Syria with the Turkish Armed Forces against ISIS and the YPG.
There were two main development batches of the tank: the original model up to the Leopard 2A4, which had vertically facing turret armor, and the "improved" batch, the Leopard 2A5 and newer versions, which had angled arrow-shaped turret decals on the armor along with other improvements. All models were equipped with a digital fire control system with laser rangefinder, a fully stabilized main gun and coaxial machine gun, and advanced night vision and targeting equipment (the first vehicles used a low-light television system, or LLLTV; thermal imaging was later introduced). The tank is able to engage moving targets while moving over rough terrain.
The Leopard 2A4 is the most common version of the Leopard 2 series. The 2A4 model contains more substantial changes, including an automatic fire and explosion suppression system, a fully digital fire control system capable of handling new ammunition types, and turret titanium/tungsten armor with flattening improvements. Leopard 2s were produced in eight batches between 1985 and 1992. All old models have been upgraded to 2A4 standards. Until 1994, Germany operated 2,125 2A4s (695 new ones, the rest modified older versions), while the Netherlands added a further 445 tanks. The 2A4 was also a Swiss-made Panzer 87 "Leopard" or Pz 87 license. This version includes a Swiss-made 7.5mm MG 87 machine gun and communications equipment, and features an improved NBC protection system. Switzerland operates 380 Pz 87 tanks.
Install & use Install: follow the bundled instructions
- Unzip the archive from playbuff and read the bundled readme / instructions first.
- There is no universal mod manager for this game: some mods replace game files directly, some go into a game-specific Mods folder, and some need a game-specific community loader or tool first — follow the bundled readme.
- Place the files exactly as the readme says; mods with listed dependencies need those installed too.
- Launch the game to confirm it loaded; some games require enabling mods in settings or an in-game mod menu.
Install locations vary a lot between games and mods — the bundled readme is the most reliable guide.
