Skill Points Overhaul for Romestead

A balanced progression overhaul mod for Romestead built with BepInEx 6 (.NET CoreCLR).

Why This Mod?

In vanilla Romestead, earning a single favour/skill point requires exceeding an escalating 20% compound formula:

$$\text{XP Required} = 1500 \times 1.2^{\text{FavourLevel} + 1}$$

By Favour Level 15–20, acquiring a single point requires tens of thousands of XP, bringing progression to a near halt.

Skill Points Overhaul replaces this with a fair, rewarding Hybrid Progression Model and full retroactive support for existing saves.

Key Features

  • Softened Progression Curve ($1.05^N$ instead of $1.20^N$)
  • Keeps the satisfying feeling of gathering XP across your skills, but removes the brutal brick wall.
  • Point 1: ~1,575 XP
  • Point 10: ~2,440 XP
  • Point 20: ~3,980 XP
  • Point 25: ~5,080 XP
  • Major Milestone Bonuses (Levels 25, 50, 75, 100)
  • Every time any individual skill (Swords, Mining, Woodcutting, Archery, Farming, etc.) crosses a major milestone (Level 25, 50, 75, 100), you immediately receive +1 Bonus Skill Point!
  • Mastering a discipline delivers exciting, high-impact progression milestones.
  • Retroactive Save File Reconciliation
  • Works seamlessly with existing characters!
  • When loading a save file, the mod automatically audits:
  • All spent SP across unlocked God Favours
  • Current unspent SP
  • Lifetime skill XP earned
  • All milestone tiers reached across your skills
  • If your character is owed points under the new system, it instantly grants the missing SP with a notification chime.
  • Zero penalty: It never removes points or resets already purchased perks.

Developer Console Commands

Press ~ or \ to open the in-game terminal:

  • skillpoints — Shows active mode, spent SP, unspent SP, total SP, and current curve progress.
  • reconcilesp — Manually re-checks and recalculates SP for the current character.
  • addpoints — Instantly grants $N$ Skill Points (e.g. addpoints 3).
  • skillpointmode [hybrid | milestones | curve | vanilla] — Switch progression modes on the fly.

Install & use Install: follow the bundled instructions

  1. Unzip the archive from playbuff and read the bundled readme / instructions first.
  2. Most mods rely on the game's mod loader — the usual route is a community mod manager (such as r2modman): pick this game, install, and it handles the loader and dependencies.
  3. For a manual install, put the mod files into the matching Mod / plugins folder inside the game directory.
  4. Launch the game to confirm it loaded; mods with listed dependencies need those installed as well.

Install locations vary a lot between mods — the bundled readme is the most reliable guide.
