About this mod Author’s original text
Spartan
A frontline survivor mod by Insanity, built around spears, shield attacks, and Barrier.
This is an early testing release. Version 1.0.1 introduces a reworked model and animations. Unity import, controller playback and compilation have been checked; gameplay and multiplayer validation of this update are in progress.
Abilities
- Aegis: Gain 25% more Barrier from all sources. Your Barrier decays 25% slower.
- Spear Throw: Throw a spear for 350% damage. Holds three charges, with recharge improved by attack speed.
- Shield Bash: Sweep your shield for 300% damage, knock enemies back, and reduce armor by 60 for eight seconds. Gain Barrier per enemy hit; missed attacks recharge faster.
- Shield Charge / Shield Slam: Shares two charges with a seven-second recharge. Brace and charge through enemies, with movement speed improving the dash. Aim downward to hop and Slam, stunning enemies and sending a shockwave forward.
- For Sparta!: Leap, choose your landing location, and dive for 1200% impact damage plus a 400% shockwave. Grant nearby allies Barrier and create a protective shield arena for eight seconds.
Includes a reworked carapace-armored Spartan model with baked armor and fabric textures, shield-forward survivor portrait and display stance, skill icons, animations, and gold attack effects. Full ability details are available in the Loadout tab.
Version 1.0.1
- Reworked carapace armor, shield, helmet crest, leather strips and cloth.
- Updated movement and ability animations, including shield contact and free-arm follow-through.
- Updated the thrown spear to match the carried spear model.
- Aligned Shield Bash damage and its swing effect with the strike, and spear release with the throwing motion.
- Retained existing damage, recharge and movement settings.
Please check attack/effect timing, terrain landings and remote-player animations when testing this update.
Installation
Install SpartanMod Mod Manager or r2modman, allow its dependencies to install, then launch using Start modded.
If upgrading from a manually installed testing build, remove or disable that previous Henry/Spartan package first. Do not load duplicate copies of HenryMod.dll or SpartanMod.dll.
For manual installation, install the dependencies listed in manifest.json and copy the included BepInEx folder into your Risk of Rain 2 installation, preserving the folder structure.
Multiplayer testing
Every player must install the same SpartanMod version. Matching mod profiles are recommended.
Test with each player hosting in turn. Please check remote-player animations and carried spears, attack effects and damage, ally Barrier from For Sparta!, and shield-arena collision and attack blocking. Multiplayer behavior has not yet been fully verified.
When reporting an issue, include the mod version, whether the Spartan player was the host or a joining player, what each player saw, and the relevant BepInEx log.

Install & use Install: BepInEx plugin
- The archive from playbuff is the mod itself — usually a BepInEx plugin (a .dll or a plugin folder once unzipped).
- Recommended: use a community mod manager (such as r2modman) — pick this game, import the mod, and the manager sets up BepInEx and its dependencies for you.
- Manual route: install the BepInEx loader in the game folder, then drop the unzipped .dll or plugin folder into BepInEx/plugins/.
- Launch the game — the BepInEx console logs every plugin it loads; seeing this mod in the log means it is installed.
Mods with listed dependencies need those installed too, or they will not load. Options are usually changed in-game or in the plugin's config file.
Install these first, or the mod will not work:
