About this mod Author’s original text

Location markers

Displays map-wide markers for teleporters and named purchase interactables, including Newt altars, shrines, chests, printers, scrappers, cauldrons and drones. New or modded named purchase interactables fall back to Other. Used and unavailable purchase interactables are hidden by default; temporarily busy printers return when available again.

Ctrl+H toggles visibility. F8 opens the redesigned settings panel. Display and Marker types tabs provide icon previews, category toggles, RGB sliders, hex validation, color presets, and reset controls. F8 or Esc closes the panel. The panel opens the game menu cursor and changes are saved automatically. Names, distances, off-screen indicators, availability, icon size, height, maximum distance, and scan interval are configurable. All ten categories have distinct built-in monochrome symbols. This version uses a screen overlay and does not clone game prefabs. It does not require Risk of Options.

For custom icons, place white transparent PNGs beside LocationMarkers.dll in an Icons subfolder, named Teleporter.png, Newt_altar.png, Shrine.png, Chest.png, Void.png, Printer.png, Scrapper.png, Cauldron.png, Drone.png or Other.png. Restart after replacing icons. Colors are applied in-game. Marker categories are grouped rather than providing one color for every shrine subtype. Objects without a PurchaseInteraction or teleporter component are outside this version's coverage. Install on the client.

Compatibility and release status

Version 0.2.1 is an experimental independent replacement, built against Risk of Rain 2 Hallowed Concepts (Steam build 25475991, October 8, 2026). All three plugins and their Harmony patches loaded successfully in an isolated headless startup test. Visual rendering, full gameplay, multiplayer, and every survivor have not been verified. Please report reproducible issues with your BepInEx log.

Installation

Install with a -compatible mod manager. Disable the original corresponding mod and any other mod providing the same behavior before using this replacement. For manual installation, install the dependencies first and copy the plugins directory into BepInEx/plugins. Configuration is generated under BepInEx/config on first launch.

Credits and source

Inspired by Location markers's requested predecessor. This package contains newly written code and original artwork; it does not contain the predecessor's DLL, source or icons and is not an official update from its author.

Complete source is included in source. Build with a.NET 8 SDK or newer, setting GameManaged to the installed game's Managed directory and LoaderRefs to a BepInEx core directory. Example: dotnet build source/LocationMarkers.csproj -c Release -p:GameManaged="C:\path\to\Risk of Rain 2_Data\Managed" -p:LoaderRefs="C:\path\to\BepInEx\core". No external NuGet packages are required. MIT license.

Settings fix in 0.2.1

One local-player cursor owner blocks gameplay input. The panel preserves one background in all focus states and prevents the game from hiding/relocking its mouse while open. Single-player pauses during settings and resumes to the prior speed on close. An existing pause remains paused. Multiplayer keeps running. F8 or Esc closes the panel; scene changes and disabling the mod also clean up input and pause state.

Release notes

Published as Pyroglaive-Location_markers-0.2.1 for Risk of Rain 2 1.5.0#1210 / Hallowed Concepts. Configure Starting Items before a run. Changes to starting bonuses affect future first spawns, and unavailable items are skipped. Use one copy of each plugin; disable its predecessor to prevent conflicts. Full multiplayer sessions and every survivor/item combination have not been verified.

Install & use Install: BepInEx plugin

  1. The archive from playbuff is the mod itself — usually a BepInEx plugin (a .dll or a plugin folder once unzipped).
  2. Recommended: use a community mod manager (such as r2modman) — pick this game, import the mod, and the manager sets up BepInEx and its dependencies for you.
  3. Manual route: install the BepInEx loader in the game folder, then drop the unzipped .dll or plugin folder into BepInEx/plugins/.
  4. Launch the game — the BepInEx console logs every plugin it loads; seeing this mod in the log means it is installed.

Mods with listed dependencies need those installed too, or they will not load. Options are usually changed in-game or in the plugin's config file.
