A compatibility patch for Inferno. Recent Risk of Rain 2
updates changed how survivor skins are built, which left some of Inferno's mastery skins invisible or incomplete.
This patch repairs them while the game runs. Inferno itself is not changed.
What it repairs
| Survivor | Inferno skin | Repair |
|---|---|---|
| Captain | Erised | Restores the hat, coat, gun arm, head and undercoat, which were switched off during runs. |
| Bandit | Deadshot | Restores the missing body parts and the jaw bone the skin's models are built around. |
| Railgunner | Buried | Restores the loincloth bones (with their cloth movement), the gun-light materials and the SMG laser, so the model is drawn again. |
Commando (Overgrown), Artificer (Crystallized) and Mercenary (Headless) work on the current game and are not modified.
The repaired skins look the same in the lobby and in runs, also after switching skins repeatedly. Inferno's
difficulty, gameplay, achievements and skin unlock requirements are not affected.
Installation (r2modman)
- Install Inferno through r2modman as usual.
- Install InfernoSkinFix in the same profile.
- Start the game with Start modded.
No configuration is needed.
Multiplayer
The patch is visual and client-side. It sends nothing over the network and is not needed to join a lobby. Every
player who wants to see the repaired skins, on themselves and on others, should install it. Players without it still
see the broken skins.
Compatibility
Tested with Risk of Rain 2 Steam build 25475991 (game update of 2026-10-08), Inferno 1.7.8, BepInExPack 5.4.2122,
R2API.Skins 1.4.10 and LobbySkinsFix 1.2.4.
- InfernoSkinFix only loads when Inferno is installed.
- If a future Inferno or game update changes these skins, the patch logs an error and leaves that skin alone.
- Not part of this patch: Inferno's own gameplay errors on the current game version (for example the
Inventory.RemoveItem error in the log) are an Inferno issue.
Reporting a problem
Please include:
- The survivor, and whether the problem shows in the lobby, in a run, or both.
- Your LogOutput.log: in r2modman open Settings → Browse profile folder, then BepInEx\LogOutput.log.
Attach it after closing the game (it is rewritten on every start).
- For skin problems, first turn on Diagnostics.TraceSkinApplication in r2modman's Config editor
(Nhiblam.InfernoSkinFix), reproduce the problem once, then attach that log. Turn it off again afterwards.
A healthy log contains this line:
[Info:InfernoSkinFix] Repaired Inferno skins: Captain (...); Bandit (...); Railgunner (...). Commando, Mercenary and Artificer need no repair.

Install & use Install: BepInEx plugin
- The archive from playbuff is the mod itself — usually a BepInEx plugin (a .dll or a plugin folder once unzipped).
- Recommended: use a community mod manager (such as r2modman) — pick this game, import the mod, and the manager sets up BepInEx and its dependencies for you.
- Manual route: install the BepInEx loader in the game folder, then drop the unzipped .dll or plugin folder into BepInEx/plugins/.
- Launch the game — the BepInEx console logs every plugin it loads; seeing this mod in the log means it is installed.
Mods with listed dependencies need those installed too, or they will not load. Options are usually changed in-game or in the plugin's config file.
Install these first, or the mod will not work:
