About this mod Author’s original text
Board Break
Slam hard enough and your deck gives up. It snaps at the nose, in the middle or at the tail. Half the time the grip tape holds the pieces together and the board folds or an end hangs off it; the other half a piece comes clean off, flies and lies where it lands, truck and wheels included. Pick the board up, ride again or respawn, and it is whole.
The break is real geometry, not a texture: every deck graphic and every grip tape you own keeps working, and the break shows in the replay editor exactly as it happened.
Content only. No DLL, no script, nothing that runs code. The decks are models; ReSkate's own Board Break feature breaks them.
What you need
- ReSkate 2.0.6 or newer. Board Break is built into ReSkate from 2.0.6 on.
- Board Break switched on. It is off until you turn it on: Mod Options > Player > Board Break, or boardbreak 1 in the console.
- This pack. One install: it holds all eight decks and the break sounds.
The decks
The game has one deck model for every board, so one deck is in the game at a time. All eight are in this pack:
| Deck | Name | Shape |
| --- | --- | --- |
| 1 | Standard | the game's own popsicle, 8.5 inch |
| 2 | Wide | a wider popsicle, about 9.5 inch |
| 3 | Concave | the standard outline with deeper concave |
| 4 | Powell | late eighties: a narrow round nose and a full wide tail, about 10 inch |
| 5 | Slim | a narrow street deck, 7.75 inch |
| 6 | Egg | widest in the middle, about 9.4 inch, drawn in at both ends |
| 7 | Square | boxy nose and tail |
| 8 | Shaped | a 9.6 inch body with shoulders, a narrower nose and a squared tail |
Which of them you can ride depends on your ReSkate:
- ReSkate 2.0.6 reads one deck from a mod: you get the Standard deck, and it breaks. (boardbreak deck calls it "Pack" there and lists the eight names as not installed. That is fine.) The trucks of a broken board are drawn without their baseplates on this version.
- A ReSkate that reads deck packs (newer than 2.0.6) lists all eight. Press Insert and open MODS or SKATER: the card BOARD BREAK DECK has a button for each deck. Press one and the level loads again with it (about 20 seconds); the game does not need a restart. Your choice is remembered. Broken boards keep their baseplates. Nothing to install again: it is all in this pack already.
What happens
- A heavy slam always breaks the board. A lighter one breaks it now and then, more often the harder it was.
- Where: at the nose, in the middle or at the tail, by chance.
- How: half of all breaks stay joined by the grip tape (a folded board, a hanging nose or tail). The others come apart: the board keeps the bigger piece, the other one flies off, lands and stays there.
- Sound: a small break (an end that hangs on) cracks quietly, a board that snaps in half is loud. Three sizes, three sounds each.
- Whole again: when you pick the board up, ride it, or respawn.
- Once in a long while a board gives way while you ride it: the nose goes. That one stays broken until you fall or get off.
- Replays: a break is in the replay as it happened, also in slow motion and from any camera.
Other deck mods
A mod that brings its own deck model (a wider deck, a cruiser shape) replaces the same model the breakable deck does, so the two cannot both load. While this pack is installed and enabled, its deck is the one in the game, and such a mod is set aside: ReSkate's mod list shows it as SET ASIDE, and nothing in your mods.json is changed. Its trucks and wheels are left out with it, so nothing ends up on a deck it was not made for.
To use that other deck mod again, disable Board Break in the mod list.
Deck graphics and grip tapes are not deck models: they are items, and they all keep working on every Board Break deck. A graphic made for the popsicle stretches a little at the corners of the square and shaped decks.

Install & use Install: follow the bundled instructions
- Unzip the archive from playbuff and read the bundled readme / instructions first.
- Most mods rely on the game's mod loader — the usual route is a community mod manager (such as r2modman): pick this game, install, and it handles the loader and dependencies.
- For a manual install, put the mod files into the matching Mod / plugins folder inside the game directory.
- Launch the game to confirm it loaded; mods with listed dependencies need those installed as well.
Install locations vary a lot between mods — the bundled readme is the most reliable guide.
