The Mimic
The Mimic is here. He can replicate the voices of you and your friends, and if you're unwary, your appearance as well... It can appear in solo and multiplayer levels. Alone, it stalks and attacks you; with a crew, it can also steal a dead player's appearance.
All models, textures, and audio taken from Security Breach: Ruin.
Still in testing. Fully built out and everything should work, but expect some jank. Fixes should be rolling out as issues are discovered. Everyone in the lobby needs the mod installed.
1.0.7
- Allows the Mimic to spawn and hunt in solo levels. The solo despawn gate also hid Mimics spawned through the admin menu and caused repeated respawn attempts.
- Solo play uses the same stalk, hunt, and jumpscare behavior as multiplayer. Appearance theft still needs another player's body.
1.0.6
- Scores only players within detection range when choosing someone to stalk.
- For a pounce, scores only players within their eligible commit range. A distant isolated player can no longer hide a nearby group from the Mimic.
- Chases a nearby player who has the Mimic in view, rather than backing away from that player.
- Relocates toward rooms near players when nobody is in detection range, instead of roaming away from everyone.
- Keeps the chosen target when entering Hunt and respects the post-scare cooldown before another chase.
1.0.5
- Players standing near a teammate are no longer invisible to the Mimic's target logic; isolation now influences target choice and commit distance instead of preventing engagement.
- Roaming now checks for players and can immediately transition to stalk or hunt instead of finishing a player-avoidant route.
- Idle target re-evaluation is 4-8 seconds instead of 14-28 seconds.
- The disguise explicitly enters stand/walk/sprint animation states and faces its measured direction of travel, fixing frozen animation and sideways high-speed scuttling.
What it does
- Voice mimicry: records short clips of each player's own voice chat, 2.5 seconds each, up to 6 held in memory, and replays them from the Mimic's body as a lure that sounds like proximity chat. Nothing is written to disk. If nobody has been talking, it speaks a player's typed chat line through the game's text-to-speech instead.
- Appearance theft: after taking a dead player's head, it clones that player's whole avatar, cosmetics and colors, and walks around wearing it.
For developers - detailed breakdown
Ships as MimicMonster.dll plus MimicMonster.repobundle. REPOLib registers the bundle. The DLL exists so the prefab's script references resolve. Requires REPOLib.
AI. EnemyMimic is a state machine on the game's enemy idiom, with stateImpulse-gated entry and UpdateState() RPCs gated on SemiFunc.IsMasterClientOrSingleplayer(), host-authoritative. States are Spawn, Idle, Roam, Stalk, SeekCorpse, Impersonate, Hunt, Jumpscare, Leave, Despawn, Stun. Corpse-seeking uses the game's EnemyHeadGrabber pattern, SemiFunc.PlayerGetList() with PlayerAvatar.playerDeathHead. The same targeting and attack states run with one player or a crew.
Voice. Two Harmony patches drive capture. A postfix on PlayerAvatar.Awake adds a MimicVoiceCapture to every player, and a patch on LocalVoiceFramed.PushDataAsync feeds each client's own outgoing mic frames into an in-memory ring at 48kHz, 2.5s snippets, max 6. Each client only ever captures itself, so attribution is per player without extra work. For playback the host's EnemyMimic requests a specific player's voice through VoiceLureRequestRPC. The one client that owns that voice broadcasts a random snippet in 8KB chunks through its own PhotonView, every client reassembles it, low-pass filters and edge-fades it, and plays it on an AudioSource at the Mimic routed to the game's microphone mixer group. When a player has no captured mic voice, the Mimic re-synthesizes one of their typed text-to-speech chat lines instead. MimicTTSPlayback clones a live TTSVoice onto the Mimic's body to speak it.

Install & use Install: BepInEx plugin
- The archive from playbuff is the mod itself — usually a BepInEx plugin (a .dll or a plugin folder once unzipped).
- Recommended: use a community mod manager (such as r2modman) — pick this game, import the mod, and the manager sets up BepInEx and its dependencies for you.
- Manual route: install the BepInEx loader in the game folder, then drop the unzipped .dll or plugin folder into BepInEx/plugins/.
- Launch the game — the BepInEx console logs every plugin it loads; seeing this mod in the log means it is installed.
Mods with listed dependencies need those installed too, or they will not load. Options are usually changed in-game or in the plugin's config file.
Install these first, or the mod will not work:
