F.Y.I.P. - Disable Specific Monsters via Config

This mod is only required by the hosting player.

Say "F You In Particular" to monsters you don't want to have spawn.

This mod filters out unwanted monsters from the list that the vanilla monster spawner uses to randomly select monsters. This is intended for players who still want the game to be fun and challenging, but don't want to deal with monsters that are complete nuisances that ruin the game the second you see them. Fun fact, this started off as a mod to just disable the Tick.

How to Use

Run the game with F.Y.I.P. once to generate the configuration. Using the config editor in r2modman/similar mod manager software, set the undesired monsters to false to disable them.

FAQs

  • Does it work with monsters from other mods?
  • As long as the monsters are loaded using standard patching processes like REPOLib (which every mod should), yes. The first time you run the game with the mods that add monsters, they will be added to the F.Y.I.P. configuration file.
  • After adding mods with their own monsters, now the configuration file isn't alphabetically sorted (the modded monsters are at the bottom).
  • Unfortunately, due to limitations in the BepInEx configuration handling, there isn't anything I can do about that at this time. If I discover a solution, I will implement it. You can delete the configuration file and re-run the game to have it fully sorted.
  • Other mods offer this, what makes this one better?
  • This mod does not override the the monster spawning system. A similar mod attempted to offer this functionality, but the developer overrode the entire monster spawning system and didn't bother to add a randomizer, causing the same 3 monsters to show up every time. F.Y.I.P. leaves the monster spawning system intact, and only the filters the list of monsters from which the spawner selects monsters.
  • This mod also does not remove/despawn monsters the second they spawn in. Not only does this negatively affect gameplay as it unfairly decreases difficulty by having fewer monsters spawn in, but it uses more resources and is overall a hacky solution. That's like cutting down a weed every 3 days instead of ripping out the root.

Planned Changes

  • Configuration via menu (likely a separate mod since it will require more dependencies)
  • Indicators in the configuration description stating what mod (if any) an monster belongs to
  • Indicators in the configuration description giving the actual name of a specific monster
  • ex. "Slow Walker" = Trudge

Install & use Install: BepInEx plugin

  1. The archive from playbuff is the mod itself — usually a BepInEx plugin (a .dll or a plugin folder once unzipped).
  2. Recommended: use a community mod manager (such as r2modman) — pick this game, import the mod, and the manager sets up BepInEx and its dependencies for you.
  3. Manual route: install the BepInEx loader in the game folder, then drop the unzipped .dll or plugin folder into BepInEx/plugins/.
  4. Launch the game — the BepInEx console logs every plugin it loads; seeing this mod in the log means it is installed.

Mods with listed dependencies need those installed too, or they will not load. Options are usually changed in-game or in the plugin's config file.
