Alternative Special Ammo Crafting and Economy
🎯 Module introduction
This is my first mod! I hope to use this mod to rebalance the ammunition economy system in RDR2 to make the game experience more realistic. Even though this is a western game, I thought it was a bit strange to only be able to carry 4 weapons but 200 rounds of various ammo, so I decided to recreate the feeling of resource scarcity seen in other RsGames titles.
💥 Recipe changes
**Explosive Ammo/Slugs:** Now uses **Nitro Express Ammo** instead of tallow (thus requiring RDO), worth **$5.35** per 6 rounds. Also requires **Express Ammo** (for revolvers/pistols) or **Standard Ammo** (other variants), and making Explosive Slugs still requires **Slugs**.
**Incendiary Bombs:** No longer requires a full bottle of Moonshine, now uses **Shotgun Bullets** and **4 units of Moonshine Cans** (RDO item), purchased from the Fence Merchant for **$18.87** (full price).
🎒 Adjustment of the amount of ammunition carried
- **Revolvers and Pistols:** 50 rounds of each type of ammunition, 12 rounds of explosive ammunition
- **Carbine Repeater:** 50 rounds of each type of ammunition, 18 rounds of explosive ammunition
- **Rifle:** 40 rounds of each type of ammunition, 20 rounds of explosive ammunition
- **Shotgun:** 50 rounds of normal bullets, 50 rounds of single-point bullets, 30 rounds of incendiary bullets, 22 rounds of explosive single-point bullets
- **Bow and Arrow:** 40 rounds normal, 20 rounds improved, 20 rounds minigame, 8 rounds burning, 8 rounds poison, 8 rounds explosive, 20 rounds tracking (RDO)
- **Critter Rifle:** 150 rounds regular, 50 rounds tranquilizer (RDO)
- **Nitro Express (RDO):** 24 rounds
💰 Ammunition price adjustment
**Each ammo box contains 10 rounds** (6 for Nitro Express, 5 for Bow and 50 for Critter Rifle)
**Price List:**
- **Pistol:** Normal 0.70, Express 0.90, High Speed 1.20
- **Revolver:** Normal 0.70, Express 0.95, High Speed 1.25
- **Repeat Gun:** Normal 0.95, Express 1.40, High Speed 1.80
- **Rifle:** Normal 1.48, Express 1.80, High Speed 2.30
- **Shotgun:** Bullets 1.00, Slug 1.05
- **Elephant Gun:** Nitro Express 5.35
- **Bow and Arrow:** 0.64
⚙️ Installation instructions
Replace the "catalog_sp.ymt" file to the "Red Dead Offline" folder in lml with the version containing the "Why 'Em" DLC + RDOffline.
Example folder path:
`C:\Program Files\Rockstar Games\Red Dead Redemption 2\lml\red_dead_offline\catalog`
**Compatible Catalog Files for Smoak Mega Arsenal:**
You need to install Smoak's module covering RDO and Why 'em before it can work properly.
The file path should be: `lml\Smoaks_Mega_Arsenal\Catalog`
🙏 Acknowledgments
This mod was inspired by HybridJoe, thanks to him showing how to modify the price and ammo. I would also like to thank Bolmin70, The Lenny who made the lml module loader, Why 'em and others.
I hope you like my first mod, see you in the comments!
Install & use Install: follow the bundled instructions
- Unzip the archive from playbuff and read the bundled readme / instructions first.
- There is no universal mod manager for this game: some mods replace game files directly, some go into a game-specific Mods folder, and some need a game-specific community loader or tool first — follow the bundled readme.
- Place the files exactly as the readme says; mods with listed dependencies need those installed too.
- Launch the game to confirm it loaded; some games require enabling mods in settings or an in-game mod menu.
Install locations vary a lot between games and mods — the bundled readme is the most reliable guide.
