Simple High Stakes (plus Taxed Money)

🎲 Story background

Have you ever wondered why the stakes in every poker game are so small? It's all a mystery until the stranger you save from an angry wife tells you a secret code that starts a real gamble. Now you know, you have to knock on the table and let others know you're ready for the high stakes...

⚠️ IMPORTANT NOTE

**This is not a completely true overhaul of the in-game mini-game UI display values. **

**What this mod changes is the amount of money you win/lose at the end of the mini-game. **

📖Mod Overview

This mod changes the amount of money you can win or lose in mini-games. I've tested it in poker (and blackjack in Rhodes Town).

When you sit down at the table, you should see a message about the new buy-in amount, which means the script has recognized that the mini-game has started.

Once you complete the mini-game, the mod will check the amount you earned/lost and multiply it by a multiplier. If you don't have enough money to play the high stakes version before you sit down at the table, you will simply play at normal odds and receive a message accordingly. After losing all your money, it is better to stand up from the table, let the script finish processing, and then sit down again, rather than using the buy option directly while seated (but the latter usually works too).

💰 Tax system

The game gives you too much money, too much to be immersed in. While there are other mods that solve this problem, they are not compatible with my mod, so I implemented a simple money tax system.

The money tax system reduces all money you earn, and the larger the amount, the higher the tax rate. You can pause the script for compatibility reasons to withdraw money from a bank or elsewhere without paying taxes.

  • **First $15** - Tax Free
  • **Next $140** - 40% tax (thanks to gs11 for pointing out my calculation error)
  • **Next $200** - 70% tax
  • **Next $400** - 85% tax
  • **Remainder** - 95% tax

The tax system can be configured in the configuration file.

🎮 Button control

  • **Numpad "-"** - Pause money tax script
  • **Numpad "+"** - Start manual mode before sitting down at the table (needs to set mode to 2 in the configuration file)

🔄 v0.9 version update

I made some small changes to the previous script (now called automatic mode).

If you have problems using it, please turn on debug mode and tell me on which messages it fails/stops when entering the minigame. Debug mode doesn't work with tax money, even if you turn it on, and debugging in general may not be performance-friendly. But if you continue to have issues in automatic mode, it can be useful to provide feedback on where it's failing, such as what messages you receive while playing the mini-game.

For those players who want maximum compatibility and/or don't want to rely on my mini-game detection, there is a manual mode activated by keystrokes. Once you press it, you'll have a few seconds to start the mini-game. It has fewer checks, but there is still a check, so it shouldn't let you copy money too easily.

⚠️ WARNING

I didn't have much time to test the new version in various situations since I no longer play Red Dead Redemption 2, but after a quick test it seemed to work well.

The mod should only trigger during the mini-game, but be aware of any other events that deduct the amount required to start the mini-game from the player (e.g. $1, $5), as it may accidentally trigger this mod and deduct your money.

🔧 Known issues

  • If you get an autosave popup after standing up from the table, the script may fail, so trigger autosave beforehand or disable it.
  • Auto-save when standing up from the table will not save your money status, please wait for the next auto-save or save manually afterwards.

Install & use Install: follow the bundled instructions

  1. Unzip the archive from playbuff and read the bundled readme / instructions first.
  2. There is no universal mod manager for this game: some mods replace game files directly, some go into a game-specific Mods folder, and some need a game-specific community loader or tool first — follow the bundled readme.
  3. Place the files exactly as the readme says; mods with listed dependencies need those installed too.
  4. Launch the game to confirm it loaded; some games require enabling mods in settings or an in-game mod menu.

Install locations vary a lot between games and mods — the bundled readme is the most reliable guide.
