Reduced Blood Effects

🩸 Module Introduction

This mod is designed to significantly reduce the visual effects of wounds and blood on NPCs in the game when they are hit. While this deviates from the realism the game was originally aiming for, it can make experiencing the masterpiece of Red Dead Redemption 2 more enjoyable for players who are uncomfortable with gore and physical damage.

**PLEASE NOTE**: The mod is still under development and the bone separation effect has not been removed yet, but most of the blood effects have been cut.

🛠️ Installation method

  • First install Alexander Blade's ScriptHookRDR2.
  • Extract the **`Reduced Blood Effects.asi`** file to your "Red Dead Redemption 2" game root directory.
  • Done! Start the game to take effect.

📖 Function details

This mod was made at the request of Discord user **"HolyRoller"**. It removes a lot of the blood splatter and wound detail from the game, providing a gentler gaming environment for players sensitive to such content.

Install & use Install: follow the bundled instructions

  1. Unzip the archive from playbuff and read the bundled readme / instructions first.
  2. There is no universal mod manager for this game: some mods replace game files directly, some go into a game-specific Mods folder, and some need a game-specific community loader or tool first — follow the bundled readme.
  3. Place the files exactly as the readme says; mods with listed dependencies need those installed too.
  4. Launch the game to confirm it loaded; some games require enabling mods in settings or an in-game mod menu.

Install locations vary a lot between games and mods — the bundled readme is the most reliable guide.
