Metal Gear Solid 3 in Red Dead Redemption 2
Ever since Metal Gear Solid 3: Delta was announced, I've been thinking about a question: **"What would it be like to experience the story and environment of Metal Gear Solid 3 in the most detailed game ever, Red Dead Redemption 2?"** 🤔
Recently, I decided to turn this idea into a reality and spent some time this September making it happen.

📥 Installation Guide
- Open the `RDR2MGS3.rar` file.
- Drag and drop the `scripts` folder into your Red Dead Redemption 2 game directory.
- Install the required MGS3 model files listed in "Requirements", please check its module page for installation instructions.
- Install Script Hook RDR2. Must be the specific version listed in the requirements.
- Install ScriptHookRDR2DotNet V2 - 2.2.0.
🎮 Recommended installation (enhance immersion)
- **Stealth Stance**: Install the Dive - Crawl N' Gun mod to get Metal Gear Solid-like crawling moves.
- **Mk22-like weapon**: Install the Hitman Hardballer 1911 module to use a pistol similar to the silenced tranquilizer gun Mk22 in MGS3.
- **Bonus Tip**: You can rename the files in the Hardballer mod to replace the Volcanic Pistol as its semi-auto firing mode is closer to the Mk22 in MGS3. For example: Rename `w_pistol_m189902.ydr` to `w_pistol_volcanic01.ydr`. Do similar operations for all files in the Hardballer module.

⚠️ Known issues and bugs
Since this mod was so complex and took so long to make, after feeling exhausted I decided not to do any more detailed polishing. Therefore, there are some major bugs in the mod, the list is as follows:
- **Abnormal enemy reaction**: Enemies may not attack after discovering the player, but will only show excitement (including Boss battles).
- **Occasional crash**: There is a small chance that the game will crash when traveling through larger areas in the module (such as Groznyj Grad).
- **Cutscene Flaws**: Characters may have some unnatural behavior during cutscenes.
- **Empty scene**: Due to reaching the upper limit of the number of game props, the Groznyj Grad area is very empty. (I even had to remove part of the wall to prevent the game from crashing)
- **Enemy Moves Weirdly**: Some enemies may walk in strange ways.
- **The Pain Boss Battle Bug**: There is a serious bug in the boss battle of The Pain.
Sorry again for this less than perfect experience. I started making this mod at the beginning of September and it was basically completed around the 18th, but there were many bugs. I'm exhausted, but a rule of thumb for modders is: even if content is unfinished, publish it inst …
Install & use Install: follow the bundled instructions
- Unzip the archive from playbuff and read the bundled readme / instructions first.
- There is no universal mod manager for this game: some mods replace game files directly, some go into a game-specific Mods folder, and some need a game-specific community loader or tool first — follow the bundled readme.
- Place the files exactly as the readme says; mods with listed dependencies need those installed too.
- Launch the game to confirm it loaded; some games require enabling mods in settings or an in-game mod menu.
Install locations vary a lot between games and mods — the bundled readme is the most reliable guide.
