More automatic saves

🎮 Function Overview

This script solves the problem with the automatic save system in Red Dead Redemption 2! It gives you a longer autosave history by monitoring the game save directory and converting manual save slots into additional autosave slots.

⚡ How it works

The script will continuously monitor the archive directory of RDR2, and when the automatic archive slot (slot 15) changes, it will overwrite the oldest manual archive slot with the previous automatic archive file. Over time, this builds up a continuously updated automatic archive history.

The latest automatic archive usually only contains records from 1-10 minutes ago (usually closer to 1 minute), giving you multiple options if a problem occurs.

⚠️ Important reminder

**Please be sure to back up any important saves! **

By default, this script ends up covering 10 manual archive slots (slots SRDR30005 to SRDR30014). If you have saves in these slots that you don't want overwritten, copy them elsewhere.

🛠️ How to use

  • Make sure Python is installed
  • Run the script
  • Keep the script running as long as you want historical updates to be archived automatically

*Note: The script should automatically find your RDR2 profile directory. If not found, it will prompt you for input. To avoid having to type it every time, you can add the path in a text editor by following the instructions at the top of the script file. *

⚙️ Configuration options

Easily configured via a text editor/IDE by modifying the options at the top of the script:

  • **MANUAL_SLOT_OVERWRITE_COUNT**

Set the number of slots to convert from manual to automatic archiving

(Default 10 additional automatic save slots, 5 manual save slots reserved)

  • **CUSTOM_PROFILE_PATHS**

Used to place any custom configuration file paths. Used when a configuration file or multiple configuration files cannot be found in the default location

(One per line. Must be enclosed in single or double quotes, the path cannot contain the same quote type, and the quote must end with a comma)

💡 Usage suggestions

This tool is especially suitable for players who often forget to save manually! Now even if your manual save is from a few hours ago, you still have multiple recent autosaves to choose from when something goes wrong.

Make the gaming experience more secure, and you no longer have to worry about losing game progress due to improper auto-save timing!

Install & use Install: follow the bundled instructions

  1. Unzip the archive from playbuff and read the bundled readme / instructions first.
  2. There is no universal mod manager for this game: some mods replace game files directly, some go into a game-specific Mods folder, and some need a game-specific community loader or tool first — follow the bundled readme.
  3. Place the files exactly as the readme says; mods with listed dependencies need those installed too.
  4. Launch the game to confirm it loaded; some games require enabling mods in settings or an in-game mod menu.

Install locations vary a lot between games and mods — the bundled readme is the most reliable guide.
