Custom walking speed

🎮 **Welcome to my new series: "Learn from other modules, modify them to my liking, and then share them with players who may need them"! **

This module is inspired by PixieV’s “Wheel Movement Speed Control” module. I have personally used it for a long time and think it is a must-have tool ❤️.

However, due to my terrible office mouse, every time I want to switch from walking to running, I have to scroll for a long time... So, this improved version was born!

---

✨ Core Functions

  • **Scroll wheel speed adjustment**: Using the "Previous Weapon" and "Next Weapon" operations bound to the mouse wheel by default, you can adjust your walking/running speed **smoothly and gradually**.
  • **Indoor Running**: Now you can run freely** inside buildings or campsites!
  • **Sprint key compatibility**: The original sprint key is still valid, allowing you to quickly enter the sprint state, and it is no problem to trigger in-game prompts.

⚙️ Custom options

The module contains a `.ini` configuration file that you can adjust:

  • **Speed change rate**: Set how fast the movement speed changes when rolling the mouse wheel.

📝 Update log (v1.0.2)

  • **Nudge the sprint button**: Tapping the sprint button now makes you **jog**, making the sprint button basically the same function as the original game.
  • (I uploaded an optional 1.0.1 version that removes this feature because I personally prefer to return to walking speed immediately upon releasing the sprint button.)
  • **Stamina consumption threshold**: Added `STAMINA_DRAIN_THRESHOLD` configuration item, which can set the **running speed to start consuming physical energy**. The logic of the default settings is similar to the original version: jogging does not consume stamina, only stamina is consumed at faster speeds (but I personally like jogging to consume a little more, so I have this option).
  • **Module switch hotkey**: Added `DISABLE_KEY` configuration item, you can set a hotkey to **temporarily disable the entire module** (no key is bound by default).
  • **Default Scroll Sensitivity**: Slightly increased the default rate of speed change when scrolling the mouse wheel (from 10 to 13).

⚠️ Known issues

  • **First Person Perspective**: If you mainly use the first person perspective, this mod is **not recommended**. The experience in first-person isn't great, with you sometimes taking uncontrollable steps forward, and rolling the wheel won't increase your speed beyond jogging (you can still sprint using the sprint key, though). The reason is unknown, and I don’t use first person, so this problem will not be fixed for the time being.

🛠️ Installation instructions

  • Download the `CustomWalkSpeed.rar` file.
  • Unzip it and put all the files inside into your "Red Dead Redemption 2" game root directory.
  • **Required Prerequisites**: You need to install Script Hook developed by Alexander Blade.

---

**Friendly Tip**: If you don’t care about the above-mentioned new features, then please use the original “Wheel Movement Speed Control” module directly:

Happy gaming! 🤠

Install & use Install: follow the bundled instructions

  1. Unzip the archive from playbuff and read the bundled readme / instructions first.
  2. There is no universal mod manager for this game: some mods replace game files directly, some go into a game-specific Mods folder, and some need a game-specific community loader or tool first — follow the bundled readme.
  3. Place the files exactly as the readme says; mods with listed dependencies need those installed too.
  4. Launch the game to confirm it loaded; some games require enabling mods in settings or an in-game mod menu.

Install locations vary a lot between games and mods — the bundled readme is the most reliable guide.
