About this mod Machine translation

This mod forces the player to sleep intermittently by draining cores when Arthur becomes tired, undergoes "heavy blinking" and eventually passes out from sleep deprivation. It also allows you to take a nap anywhere.

Sleep Deprivation

Thanks to the amazing modding community ❤️, there are tons of awesome mods out there that make the Red Dead Redemption 2 experience even more realistic and immersive.

But one thing still bothers me: You never really have to sleep. This mod attempts to solve this problem.

**💡 Almost all features can be customized in the .ini file! **

🌙 Module function

**Fatigue System**

  • Arthur/John will become fatigued after not sleeping for a while (when your normal sleep cores are depleted).
  • The fatigue state will slowly drain your core, you will "hard blink" (the screen fades out for a second), Arthur will make a tired/annoyed sound, and the screen will blur slightly (optional).

**Sleep deprivation and passing out**

  • Eventually, you will pass out from sleep deprivation (when your secondary sleep cores are exhausted).
  • Passing out does not count as good sleep, it just puts you back into a "very tired" state and only restores your core to 25%.

**💤 Take a nap anytime, anywhere**

  • While you're crouching, press the "menu_up" key (defaults to the up arrow key) to bring up the prompts.
  • A nap takes two hours and restores your core to 50% and returns you to a rested state.
  • **but! ** It takes half as long to become tired again as it does to get proper rest.
  • There are no safety measures for taking naps, it’s up to you to take them only at the right place and time!
  • Bringing up the "nap" prompt will cause your character to sit down, and you can use it to sit down anywhere (even if you don't want to sleep) - purely for roleplaying purposes.

**☕ Doping**

  • Drinking coffee restores 30% of sleep cores.
  • Cocaine Gum, Miracle Tonic, Bitters can restore 20%.
  • They have a 2 hour game time cool down period, meaning once you drink coffee, drinking it again within 2 hours will have no effect.
  • However, you can drink coffee and take another stimulant to stack the effects.
  • You can drink it again after 2 hours, but the effect will only be 50% of the first time. The third time it’s only 25%, and so on… until you go to bed.
  • Taking stimulants when your sleep core is full will overload it, so you can drink coffee in the morning to get the full effect.

**📊 Sleep Core HUD Elements**

  • Shows how tired you are. When normal cores are depleted, you reach the "fatigue" state (cores deplete and start blinking).
  • Afterwards, a second (grey) outer core will appear, and when it is depleted, you reach a "sleep deprived" state and will immediately pass out.
  • You can customize the size and position of the core in the .ini file, or disable it.

**🛠️ Positioning tips**

  • To make it easier to locate the sleep core, you can create a new text file in the game directory and name it `scriptHookRDR2.dev`.
  • Afterwards, pressing CTRL+R twice in game will reload every mod that uses scriphook.
  • This way you can Alt+Tab out of the game, modify the position value in the .ini file, *save it*, then press CTRL+R twice in the game and the sleep core should move to the updated position without reloading the entire game.

⚠️ Known issues

  • Sleep core position and size may be incorrect at different resolutions. You can fix this problem in the .ini file.

📦 Installation instructions

  • Download `SleepDeprivation.rar`, unzip it and put the file into your Red Dead Redemption 2 game folder.
  • You need Alexander Blade’s Script Hook.

**🙏 Special thanks**

  • Special thanks to opariffazman for open sourcing his work ❤️! This helped me a lot in learning how to make mods for Red Dead Redemption 2, and snippets of his code were used in the production of this mod!

Install & use Install: follow the bundled instructions

  1. Unzip the archive from playbuff and read the bundled readme / instructions first.
  2. There is no universal mod manager for this game: some mods replace game files directly, some go into a game-specific Mods folder, and some need a game-specific community loader or tool first — follow the bundled readme.
  3. Place the files exactly as the readme says; mods with listed dependencies need those installed too.
  4. Launch the game to confirm it loaded; some games require enabling mods in settings or an in-game mod menu.

Install locations vary a lot between games and mods — the bundled readme is the most reliable guide.
