Persistent and Natural Dirt

🎯 Module function

This mod fixes the persistent dirt effect that Rockstar disabled in the PC version, allowing player characters to maintain realistic dirt accumulation just like the console version!

🌟 Main features

  • **Restore Persistent Dirt Effect**: The PC version defaults to a minimum value of 70 and a negative delta value, resulting in players almost never experiencing the Persistent Dirt decal
  • **Two versions to choose from**:
  • **Persistent Dirt Version**: Only the dirt that the player actually comes into contact with (such as falling into a mud pit, colliding with a horse, carrying a bleeding corpse, etc.)
  • **Natural Dirt Edition**: In addition to its long-lasting dirt function, it also allows dirt to accumulate naturally over time
  • **Real Drying Effect**: The dirt/blood effect will dry over time but will not disappear completely

🛁 Cleaning mechanism

  • **Bathing is a must**: 100% cleanliness can only be achieved by taking a bath in the hotel
  • **Rain and Swimming**: Can be cleaned but not completely (that’s what makes it real!)
  • **Game mechanics retained**: The original automatic cleaning trigger conditions of the game will not be changed (such as specific tasks, visiting trappers, changing clothes, etc.)

⚙️ Installation instructions

Simple installation

If you have not modified the visualsettings.dat file, just put the file into the lml folder

Manual installation (if modified)

  • Open visualsettings.dat with a text editor
  • Find and modify the following values:

**Long lasting dirt version:**

```
peddirt.change.player.indirt 15.0
peddirt.change.player.sliding 0.5
peddirt.rate.player.fadetogrubby 0.0
peddirt.rate.player.min.fadetogrubby 0.0
peddirt.rate.player.max.fadetogrubby 80.0
```

**Natural Dirt Version:**

```
peddirt.change.player.indirt 15.0
peddirt.change.player.sliding 0.5
peddirt.change.player.fadetogrubby 45.0
peddirt.rate.player.fadetogrubby 1.0
peddirt.rate.player.min.fadetogrubby 0.0
peddirt.rate.player.max.fadetogrubby 80.0
```

🎮 Test method

Roll around in Rhodes to become a dirty kid, then ride to Valentine. If it's still dirty when it arrives, the module is working fine!

💡 Usage suggestions

The author personally recommends using the **Persistent Dirt Version** because the natural dirt version may cause the character's face to become dirty for no reason (the game cannot differentiate between clothing and body dirt)

🔧 Custom settings

You can adjust the dirt accumulation rate as needed:

  • Open visualsettings.dat
  • Find the line `peddirt.change.player.fadetogrubby`
  • modified value (based on seconds, 45 seconds = 1 increment, total 70 increments to reach maximum dirt)

Enjoy a more authentic western life experience! 🤠

Install & use Install: follow the bundled instructions

  1. Unzip the archive from playbuff and read the bundled readme / instructions first.
  2. There is no universal mod manager for this game: some mods replace game files directly, some go into a game-specific Mods folder, and some need a game-specific community loader or tool first — follow the bundled readme.
  3. Place the files exactly as the readme says; mods with listed dependencies need those installed too.
  4. Launch the game to confirm it loaded; some games require enabling mods in settings or an in-game mod menu.

Install locations vary a lot between games and mods — the bundled readme is the most reliable guide.
