Hunting Grounds
🎯 Installation instructions
- Unzip the compressed file
- Place the HuntingGrounds.asi file and HuntingGrounds folder into the game’s main directory
🦌 Dynamic animal body shape
Now, animals of the same species are all exactly the same size. Using Hunting Grounds, animals will change in size, making RDR2's natural world more dynamic and realistic.
🌿 Dynamic animal population
Overhunting in a given area can reduce animal populations. If you hunt too many deer in the Heartlands, there will be fewer deer in the area. Animal populations recover over time.
In the image above, you can see the new HUD elements that display the animal's weight and the species' population level in the current area. In this example, the animals are relatively large and the population in the current area is at its highest.
🩸 Blood Trace
To make hunting even more immersive, you can now track injured animals via blood trails without going into Eagle Eye mode. Both animals and humans bleed from wounds depending on the severity of the injury.
🎣 Bait Mark
Have you ever placed a bait, then moved to cover but didn’t know where to put the bait? Using this feature will briefly display a marker on your map when placing bait. If you prefer an extra challenge, this feature, as well as all other features in the mod, can be turned off independently.
🏆Hunting Contest - **NEW FEATURE! **
This mechanic allows you to compete in one-on-one timed matches against random opponents to hunt down as many specific species of local animals as possible within the time limit.
Points are awarded for each kill, and when the time is up, the side with more points wins and receives the reward.
How does it work?
You'll notice a new marker type on the map:
Once there, you'll meet a Hunter NPC who you can talk to to start the match.
You can review the competition requirements and stakes, and activate the "Hunting Competition" prompt to start the competition. Then just follow the in-game instructions:
You may need to walk a short distance to the competition area. Once the game starts, you can only hunt designated specific types of animals. At the end of the time, the party with more points wins and gets the reward.
You earn extra points for headshot kills, hunting large animals, high-quality animals, using bait, or fatally wounding your prey.
On the other hand, you will be punished if you kill a target with Dead Eye. In addition, in order to level the playing field, movement during the game can only be done on foot.
HUD interface
During the match, you'll see the remaining time and score status, and every time you or your opponent scores a kill, a score-increasing notification will appear on the right:
Install & use Install: follow the bundled instructions
- Unzip the archive from playbuff and read the bundled readme / instructions first.
- There is no universal mod manager for this game: some mods replace game files directly, some go into a game-specific Mods folder, and some need a game-specific community loader or tool first — follow the bundled readme.
- Place the files exactly as the readme says; mods with listed dependencies need those installed too.
- Launch the game to confirm it loaded; some games require enabling mods in settings or an in-game mod menu.
Install locations vary a lot between games and mods — the bundled readme is the most reliable guide.
