1898 Historical Accuracy Overhaul

🎯Mod Overview

This mod aims to make NPC equipment, weapon selection, and other game elements as historically accurate as possible while maintaining the combat rhythm and overall experience of the original game. After months of research, the author consulted a large amount of historical data from 1896 to 1898 to ensure that every detail is authentic and credible.

🔫 Weapon system remake

**Cartman Revolver**: Although once the standard issue weapon of the US military, in 1898 it was still a favorite among soldiers, gangs and law enforcement officers. Law enforcement officers tend to use the long barrel version, while civilians tend to use the short barrel version.

**Schofield Revolver**: The first choice for law enforcement officers during the Wild West era, and was once the standard issue weapon of the U.S. Army. By 1898, most of the stock had flowed into the civilian market, becoming a popular choice among all classes.

**Double Action Revolver**: Replaced Cartman and became the military's standard gun, almost all of which use blue steel finish. The Model 1892 and its subsequent models were among the most popular revolvers in the United States at the time.

**Carbine Repeater**: Popularly used by the Union Army during the Civil War, but was almost completely replaced by the Winchester (Lancaster) by 1898. Use was limited due to the scarcity of specialized ammunition in the South.

**Lancaster Repeating Gun**: Arguably the most popular repeating rifle at the time, similar to the setting in the game where everyone carries a carbine repeating gun. The 1866 Yellow Boy Winchester has been replaced by the more modern 1873, 1892 and 1894 models.

🎮 Game experience optimization

  • Added medium and long range scopes for all rifles and repeaters (except Evans rifles)
  • Sniper rifles can now switch/remove scopes
  • The damage attenuation range of the Springfield rifle is extended, and the maximum range and minimum damage are increased
  • The damage model of the bolt-action rifle has been adjusted. It can kill with one hit within 10 meters while maintaining long-range effectiveness.

👮 Law enforcement system improvements

Law enforcement equipment is now configured based on the wealth of the area, rather than a simple "difficulty" level. Law enforcement officers in Saint-Denis and Blackwater are significantly better equipped than poorer areas such as Rhodes and Annesburg.

🐎 Horse system

  • Re-added the deleted chestnut Hungarian half-blood as a bounty hunter/law enforcement mount
  • Added Mahogany Tennessee Walking Horse, Black Snowflake Appaloosa and Raven Black Shire to the wild horse spawn pool

⚙️ Installation instructions

Just put the "1898 Historical Accuracy Overhaul" folder into the lml folder in the RDR2 main directory.

📝 Notes

  • The equipment configuration in 1898 and 1907 is the same, so the historical accuracy of the final chapter will be slightly lower than that of Chapters 1-6
  • NPC equipment in missions may not be affected (99% of NPC equipment in missions are not affected by the module)
  • The Laramie Gang's equipment configuration has been optimized for 1907
  • Since there are no Spanish Mauser guns in the game, the equipment configuration of Guarma soldiers/guards is slightly different.

Install & use Install: follow the bundled instructions

  1. Unzip the archive from playbuff and read the bundled readme / instructions first.
  2. There is no universal mod manager for this game: some mods replace game files directly, some go into a game-specific Mods folder, and some need a game-specific community loader or tool first — follow the bundled readme.
  3. Place the files exactly as the readme says; mods with listed dependencies need those installed too.
  4. Launch the game to confirm it loaded; some games require enabling mods in settings or an in-game mod menu.

Install locations vary a lot between games and mods — the bundled readme is the most reliable guide.
