Heartlander Horse
✨ Module Introduction
The Heartland Horse is a fictional horse breed I created based on the world of Red Dead Redemption 2. In the story, the wealthy settlers of Heartland hope to breed a perfect hybrid horse that combines the best qualities of the wild horses of the time with the Hungarian Halbred horse. Their goal was to create a versatile horse that was capable of both work and hauling, but could also travel long distances and remain calm in the face of danger. By prioritizing the offspring of bloodlines with high amounts of Arabian horse genes, they ended up creating crossbred horses with not only good stamina and strength, but also excellent health and speed. The result is the Heartland Horse - which has the physique of the Hungarian Halbred, the coat and variety of coat colors of the Mustang, while retaining the handling and attributes of its Arabian ancestors.
🐎 Module details
This is a mod that **replaces all Arabian horses**. I personally feel that Arabian horses are a bit out of place in the game, and prefer larger horses. So what started out as my own custom Hungarian Halbred horse project for late-game use in Free Roam evolved into a completely new fictional horse breed based on my preference for trimmings and more ornate coat colors.
Not only does it replace the model and texture, it also replaces the name of the original variety. Instead of an "Arabian horse" that looks like a feathered Hungarian Halbred, you'll be riding a horse that's actually called a "Heartland." Coat color names reflect its actual appearance, and there is a custom illustrated book entry describing the breed's new appearance and history.
However, these changes are mainly cosmetic. As far as I know, I'm not modifying the properties in any way. If it has been modified accidentally, please notify me and I will try my best to restore it.
🎨Affected coat color
This mod modifies the textures of black Turkmen horses and Arabian red sorrel horses. This affects the textures of some other horses in the game. According to the list I obtained, affected horses include: Hungarian Halbred Flax sorrels, Tennessee Walking Horse sorrels, and Thoroughbred geldings. I think it mainly affects the head texture, but that may not be accurate, I haven't tested it yet. Be aware that you may see changes in these horses, especially in the head. If you have a mod that adds the Black Turkmen horse to the game, its skin will also be different. Again, these changes are an unfortunate side effect of how horse textures work in the game, and **I will not be fixing this**. You can ask other modders or fix it yourself.

⚠️ IMPORTANT NOTE
The second thing I want to mention is that I know nothing about coding. Therefore, the help I can provide regarding bugs and problem resolution will be extremely limited. The mod itself works fine, I can guarantee that. So, if you have compatibility issues, you'll have to fix them yourself, or ask other modders if they'd like to fix them, because there's really noth …
Install & use Install: follow the bundled instructions
- Unzip the archive from playbuff and read the bundled readme / instructions first.
- There is no universal mod manager for this game: some mods replace game files directly, some go into a game-specific Mods folder, and some need a game-specific community loader or tool first — follow the bundled readme.
- Place the files exactly as the readme says; mods with listed dependencies need those installed too.
- Launch the game to confirm it loaded; some games require enabling mods in settings or an in-game mod menu.
Install locations vary a lot between games and mods — the bundled readme is the most reliable guide.
