🎮 **Bring a touch of law to the wilderness! **

Have you ever felt that the wilderness was too empty and lacking any trace of the law? This mod is made for just that! It's designed to increase the immersion of the game, allowing you to occasionally encounter law enforcement officers on patrol outside of town.

✨ Core Functions

  • **Dynamic Patrol**: Increased likelihood of encountering law enforcement officers **traveling alone on horseback** in towns, town outskirts, and wilderness.
  • **Diverse Enforcers**: You may encounter **Town Deputy Sheriff/Police**, **Sheriff**, **Soldiers**, and **Pinkerton Detectives**. They are recognized by the game as **Law Enforcers, Soldiers, or Pinkertons** and will react to criminal behavior according to the game's default logic.
  • **Follow game settings**:
  • Follow the regional jurisdiction settings in the game. Enforcers in a given town will only appear near the town they serve, soldiers operate around their fortresses, and Sheriffs and Pinkerton Detectives have no geographic restrictions.
  • In towns, they will follow dynamic behavior logic and may linger near local attractions and then leave.
  • **Real time rules**:
  • **Daytime**: Lower chance of encounter.
  • **Dawn/Dusk**: Very low chance of encounter.
  • **Night**: Not at all.

🗺️ Effective area

The module is effective in the following areas:

  • **Annisberg, Blackwater, Emerald Ranch, Valentine, Rhodes, Saint-Denis, Strawberry**
  • **Bayounwa, Grand Canyon, Cumberland Forest, Great Plains, East Grizzly, Hagen Mountains, Roanoke Valley, Scarlet Prairie, Tall Trees**
💡 **NOTE**: New Austin areas, Butcher Creek, West Grizzly, Guama and Van Horn are **not** included to maintain the original game settings.

⚙️ Technical details

  • **Lightweight Implementation**: This module uses the original game's law enforcement model, default clothing and equipment, and does not modify any law enforcement behavior, character relationships or faction settings.
  • **How it works**: Take advantage of the vanilla pedestrian spawning system by modifying the game's `popgroups.ymt` and `popcycle.dat` files. This means that encountering them is random and controlled by the game engine, with no extra spawn points added and therefore no spawning headaches.
  • **Recommended Pairing**: Recommended to be used with the Horse Speed Variety mod, so you might see them traveling or galloping at their default speed (perhaps to hunt down a fugitive or call for backup?).

📦 Installation and requirements

**Essential Tools**

  • Lenny‘s Mod Loader

**Installation steps**

  • Download and extract the ZIP file.
  • Place the extracted contents into your `RDR2/lml` directory (i.e. `.../Red Dead Redemption 2/lml`).

🔧 Compatibility Notes

⚠️ **IMPORTANT NOTE**: This mod uses the **`popgroups.ymt`** and **`popcycle.dat`** files and is therefore **directly incompatible** with mods that use the same files. Before installing, please check if these files are already used by other mods in your `lml` folder.

  • **Available merge patches**: Merge files are provided for the following modules. Please download them on the optional files page and follow the instructions in the compressed package to merge:
  • Cowgirls Revisioned
  • Project New Austin 1907
  • Dispatch
  • **No Merger Plans**: There are currently no plans to create a merge patch for the Ambient Gang mod (mainly due to the potential immersion-breaking relationship between Outlaws and Enforcers).

I hope this simple mod can add a more realistic and vivid world atmosphere to your "Red Dead Redemption 2" journey! 🚓🐎

Install & use Install: follow the bundled instructions

  1. Unzip the archive from playbuff and read the bundled readme / instructions first.
  2. There is no universal mod manager for this game: some mods replace game files directly, some go into a game-specific Mods folder, and some need a game-specific community loader or tool first — follow the bundled readme.
  3. Place the files exactly as the readme says; mods with listed dependencies need those installed too.
  4. Launch the game to confirm it loaded; some games require enabling mods in settings or an in-game mod menu.

Install locations vary a lot between games and mods — the bundled readme is the most reliable guide.
