Horse Overhaul Mod
🐎 Core Functions
✨ **HUNDREDS OF ENVIRONMENTAL HORSE**: More than 100 environmental horses have been added (mostly using custom textures) that can be ridden in towns, appear in quests, seen in pastures, and spawn in the wild, so you no longer get tired of seeing duplicate horses. I try to make them both unique and blend well into the environment.
🏇 **Multiple Draft Horse Breeds**: About 15 different draft horse breeds have been added, including mules, Friesian horses (models made using bolju), Perch horses, etc.
🎨 **Unique Horse Appearance**: All stable and gang horses are given unique coat colors, and you can easily replace them with other horses. If you want to use horses from other mods as your own mounts, I recommend doing so.
📊 **Simplified Status Cards**: Status cards now only show "horse" instead of incorrect breed and coat color information.
🔧 **OPTIONAL FEATURE**: Most NPC horses will now be gelded, while wild and some special horses remain stallions. These features are optional and are not included in the lightweight version.
🌟 Featured Content
🐴 **Foal Spawn**: Foals are now rarely spawned in pastures and wilds around the world. You also won't see non-feral horses in the wild, and there are special wild variants that look thinner and have messy manes.
👁️ **Horses with heterochromatic eyes**: Some horses in the module will have heterochromatic eyes.
✨ **Remove Gloss Effect**: Removed the gloss effect from horses. If you like the shine effect for some reason, you can delete the "ShineFix" folder. Special thanks to KristianD3 for making this feature.
🛠️ Installation instructions
For all files in this module (excluding individual files, see the file description for details), just find the folder containing install.xml, put it into your "LML" folder, and the module will be installed.
⚠️ Known issues
🔸 Any horses that are not normally available in stables or obtained as quest rewards will revert to maroon when saved as your own. There is currently **no workaround** for this issue, if you want to save the coat color of a horse in a specific environment, you will need to download a separate file for that horse and replace the other horses with the coat color you want.
🔸 On rare occasions, you will see someone brushing the air. This can be fixed by deleting the ambientpedmodelsets file, but foals will no longer spawn and non-feral horses will appear in the wild.
🔸 Clay Davies will occasionally mention the breed of horse you sold him.
🔸 If ambientpedmodelsets is installed, you will not be able to complete the final rider challenge. This problem, as well as some redundant Pokédex entries, can be fixed using the optional files provided by lexo1000.
✅ Issue fixed
🔹 Fixed an issue with riding a foal in the "No, No, and Thrice No" mission, as well as an issue with the foal being used by Detective Pinkerton in Blackwater
🔹 Fixed an issue where the horse was invisible in the opening scene of "My Last Boy"
🔹 Fixed an issue where the horse had no saddle in the "An Honest Day's Labors" cutscene
🔹 Gave Hamish’s leg back to Buell
🔹 Fixed an issue in earlier versions where placing a saddle on a foal would cause save files to be corrupted
🔹 Fixed the original bug where random placeholder horses appeared in the background in "We Loved Once and True II"
📈 Continuous optimization
The author has been working hard to optimize the performance of the module, and the file size has been optimized from the original 80MB to the current 39MB without removing any content. Horse textures and quality are also continuously improved to ensure the best gaming experience.
*The author stated that he has bigger future plans for this module, so stay tuned for more updates! *
Install & use Install: follow the bundled instructions
- Unzip the archive from playbuff and read the bundled readme / instructions first.
- There is no universal mod manager for this game: some mods replace game files directly, some go into a game-specific Mods folder, and some need a game-specific community loader or tool first — follow the bundled readme.
- Place the files exactly as the readme says; mods with listed dependencies need those installed too.
- Launch the game to confirm it loaded; some games require enabling mods in settings or an in-game mod menu.
Install locations vary a lot between games and mods — the bundled readme is the most reliable guide.
