Beta RDR1 2009 hat replica

🎩 **A fun mod that pays tribute to the classics! **

This mod re-creates a hat that appeared in the early beta stages of Red Dead Redemption in 2009 and brings it to Red Dead Redemption 2. It looks a bit like a fun bucket hat, my personal recreation of that RDR1 beta hat, but retains its signature folded brim style.

⚠️ **Note**: The model is planned to be improved in the future.

🎯 Module function

  • **Replacement Item**: This mod will replace John's "Gambler's Hat".
  • **UNIQUE LOOK**: Brings a retro and slightly funny unique hat look.

---

⚙️ Installation and usage instructions

If you use the JMRE (John Marston Restoration Project) module

Please follow the steps below to ensure that this mod can replace the hat correctly:

  • Open the `shop_items.ymt` file in the JMRE module.
  • Use `Ctrl+F` to search for `CLOTHING_P3_PLAYER_THREE_MS1_HAT_001_000`.
  • Replace the found `CS_JOHNMARSTON_MS1_HAT_001` with `PLAYER_THREE_MS1_HAT_001`.
  • After completing the above steps, enter the game and the hat should have been successfully replaced. 🎉

---

🎨 Custom texture (optional)

If you want to use a custom texture map for this hat, do the following:

  • Also in the `shop_items.ymt` file, search for `CLOTHING_P3_PLAYER_THREE_MS1_HAT_001_000`.
  • Find and replace the following three lines of code:
  • Replace `PLAYER_THREE_MS1_HAT_001_C1_000_AB` with `PLAYER_THREE_MS1_HAT_000_C1_000_AB`
  • Replace `PLAYER_THREE_MS1_HAT_001_C1_000_NM` with `PLAYER_THREE_MS1_HAT_000_C1_000_NM`
  • Replace `PLAYER_THREE_MS1_HAT_001_C1_000_M` with `PLAYER_THREE_MS1_HAT_000_C1_000_M`

🔮 Future Plans

I personally don't think the current model is perfect yet, so I plan on recreating the hat at some point in the future.

**TO DO**:

  • Change the size of the brim - the current one looks a bit funny. 😄

Install & use Install: follow the bundled instructions

  1. Unzip the archive from playbuff and read the bundled readme / instructions first.
  2. There is no universal mod manager for this game: some mods replace game files directly, some go into a game-specific Mods folder, and some need a game-specific community loader or tool first — follow the bundled readme.
  3. Place the files exactly as the readme says; mods with listed dependencies need those installed too.
  4. Launch the game to confirm it loaded; some games require enabling mods in settings or an in-game mod menu.

Install locations vary a lot between games and mods — the bundled readme is the most reliable guide.
