As John flees, Arthur tries to hold his ground, fending off the endless onslaught of the Pinkerton Detective Agency with only his trusty Cartman pistol, a few rounds of ammunition, and sheer willpower. The Pinkerton detectives grew increasingly frustrated and attacked him with every possible means, but to no avail.

Just as Arthur was thinking about what to do next, he was suddenly knocked down from behind.

"I got you, Black Lung—"

Arthur felt his attacker go limp and turned to see him.

"You traitor."

A stray bullet from Detective Pinkerton appears to have struck Micah. Arthur quickly pushed him away and got back to his feet, but he had no time to rest as the Pinkerton detectives quickly used the fight to their advantage. As they approach, Arthur decides to seek higher ground, but the situation becomes increasingly desperate.

After witnessing Micah's death, Arthur is filled with new energy and determination. He wanted to see his remaining family one last time and rest in their company rather than die on this God-forsaken mountain. He once again armed his Cartman pistol and took down the Pinkerton detectives who were surprised and caught off guard by his sudden determination. But despite all his efforts, Arthur is still trapped on top of a rather high mountain, facing an endless supply of Pinkerton detectives with only a few bullets left in his pocket.

He knocked down another Pinkerton detective when he suddenly heard a familiar neigh. He looked down the mountain in the direction of the sound and saw Buell looking up at him, determinedly trying to climb the unscalable slope.

"Oh man, what are you doing here.."

Arthur was in complete disbelief as he decided to leave Buell at Hamish's farmstead, fearing what would happen during the Dutchman's final move, but the loyal and intelligent horse seemed determined to follow the nearby gunshots. Arthur fears for Buell's life, but is determined to escape.

Without the slightest fear, he lay down, slid down the hill a little in a suitable spot, and jumped into the air, eventually landing on Buell's back in a move worthy of an action scene from a future movie. He immediately ordered Buell to gallop away. The Pinkerton detectives couldn't believe their eyes and were in shock for nearly half a minute until they took aim and fired at them.

Buell was an easy target in the rugged, mountainous terrain, which slowed him down, but he continued to advance while Arthur blindly fired at the Pinkerton detective in anger until his Cartman pistol clicked. Slowly but surely, he began to feel the effects of his increasingly severe illness, which left him completely helpless and nearly unconscious. Neither of them would have been able to escape this hell without Buell's determination and resourcefulness.

Buell decided to go to "The Loft" - an abandoned military outpost with a good view that could be used as a hunting lookout point. Arthur and Buell often came here to find food for the camp. The dismounted Pinkerton detectives had no chance of following them or knowing exactly where they were going, so they decided to turn first to the other Van der Linde gang members in the area, especially Dutch and John.

Buell managed to get Arthur near the attic, where they both fell to the floor and fell asleep.

The only difference is that one of them fell asleep forever, while the other only slept for a few hours..

After waking up and seeing his dead friend, Arthur thanks Buell for everything he did. He looked around and saw the familiar shape of the attic.

"Smart kid."

Arthur sat next to Buell for the last time and stroked him gently...
