VisibleArrowTrap
A BepInEx mod for PEAK that makes the Citadel arrow trap's warning line actually visible.
Overview
In the Citadel biome, arrow-shooting traps project a "laser pointer" style warning line that fires an arrow when a scout (or an object like a dropped backpack) crosses it. The stock line is a faint, soft-edged line that easily blends into the environment, so it's easy to miss until you're already hit.
VisibleArrowTrap replaces it with a solid, crisp, configurable-colored beam, so you can actually see it coming.
- Client-side visual change only — no gameplay logic is touched, so it's safe to use in multiplayer even if other players don't have it installed.
- Choose from several color presets, or restore the game's original look on demand.
- Adjust brightness and thickness to taste.
Requirements
- PEAK (Steam)
- BepInEx 5.4.x (Mono)
- PEAKLib.ModConfig — optional, but recommended. Adds an in-game settings menu so you don't have to edit the.cfg file by hand.
Installation
- Install BepInEx for PEAK, if you haven't already.
- (Recommended) Install PEAKLib.ModConfig for an in-game settings UI.
- Drop VisibleArrowTrap.dll into BepInEx/plugins/ (a subfolder is fine).
- Launch the game.
Configuration
Settings are stored in BepInEx/config/VisibleArrowTrap.cfg, and can also be changed in-game from the MOD SETTINGS menu if PEAKLib.ModConfig is installed. Changes apply immediately to any traps already in the level.
| Setting | Default | Range / Options | Description |
|---|---|---|---|
| Color | Red | Original, Red, Orange, Yellow, Green, Blue, Violet | Warning line color preset. |
| Brightness | 1 | 0.2 – 3 | Color intensity multiplier. |
| Width | 0.045 | 0.01 – 0.3 | Line thickness, in world units. |
⚠️ Color = Original behaves differently
Selecting Original restores the trap's warning line to the game's own vanilla appearance — including its own width — and in this mode, Brightness and Width are ignored. This is intentional: the game's own line material doesn't respond to color/brightness the way this mod's custom beam does, so Original always renders exactly as unmodified PEAK does.
For every other Color option, Brightness and Width apply normally.
Compatibility
- Only patches ArrowShooter.Awake. Doesn't touch any other trap, enemy, or system.
- Purely cosmetic — arrow-firing logic and networking are untouched.
Install & use Install: BepInEx plugin
- The archive from playbuff is the mod itself — usually a BepInEx plugin (a .dll or a plugin folder once unzipped).
- Recommended: use a community mod manager (such as r2modman) — pick this game, import the mod, and the manager sets up BepInEx and its dependencies for you.
- Manual route: install the BepInEx loader in the game folder, then drop the unzipped .dll or plugin folder into BepInEx/plugins/.
- Launch the game — the BepInEx console logs every plugin it loads; seeing this mod in the log means it is installed.
Mods with listed dependencies need those installed too, or they will not load. Options are usually changed in-game or in the plugin's config file.
Install these first, or the mod will not work:
