PeakVs
PeakVs turns a normal PEAK multiplayer run into a checkpoint race. Everyone climbs the same mountain, but each racer gets private loot and owner-only item effects that rivals see as ghosts.
This is an early multiplayer release. Every player in the lobby must install the same PeakVs version. Host-only installation is not supported.
PeakVs verifies the version advertised by every active player. If anyone is missing the mod or has a different version, all PeakVs gameplay changes remain disabled and the run uses PEAK's normal multiplayer rules.
Race rules
- Other racers remain visible as translucent scouts. Worn packs use the same ghost treatment, and the cannibalism chicken replacement is disabled during races.
- Player-to-player and rival-owned-item collisions are disabled, so racers and thrown objects pass through one another locally.
- Every racer can independently open each luggage container and collect its contents. By default its item roll is deterministic and identical for everyone; the host can switch to independent rolls.
- Existing world loot is cloned into a private Photon group for each racer.
- Held, thrown, and placed items remain visible to rivals at low opacity so animations and routes are readable, but only their owner can pick up or use them. This includes pitons, rope launchers, rope spools, anchors, and rope grabs.
- Worn backpacks and fanny packs are owner-only; their contents cannot be taken by another racer.
- Campfire areas suppress hunger even before the fire is lit.
- Scoutmaster spawning and targeting are disabled.
- The Cursed Skull, Scout Effigy, Scoutmaster bugles, and items marked by PEAK as multiplayer-only are excluded.
- The ancient statue behaves normally but gives every racer their own private mystical-item roll instead of reviving another player.
- The top-center TextMeshPro race HUD uses PEAK's own display font. It shows one shared timer to tenths while everyone is racing, then switches to the individual finish and FF splits. Press F7 for a compact personal timer with PB pace, attempt number, altitude, and distance to the checkpoint.
- Personal checkpoint records are automatic and local. Live pace is green or red against your PB, and a new best split is marked gold. Records are categorized by PEAK version, level scene, ascent, racer count, and luggage rules so unlike runs are not compared.
- Touching the current campfire records a finish. Dying records an FF for that biome.
- When every connected racer has finished or FF'd, the host lights the checkpoint automatically. Dead racers are revived, all racers are gathered at the campfire, and the next biome timer begins from a common start.
Installation
Install through a -compatible mod manager, or copy BepInEx/plugins/PeakVs/PeakVs.dll into your PEAK installation's BepInEx/plugins/PeakVs folder.
All racers must use PeakVs 0.8.0 together. The F6 menu reports when PeakVs is disabled because a peer has not advertised the matching version.
Configuration
Press F6 in PEAK to open the PeakVs menu. Every racer can change the HUD and rival display locally, including rebinding the menu and compact-HUD hotkeys from their rows. The host also gets race controls for matched luggage loot, automatic advancement, restarting the current split, or forcing a stuck checkpoint.
The same options are stored in BepInEx/config/dev.peakvs.racemode.cfg:
- Visuals.RemoteScoutOpacity: opacity for other racers, from 0.15 to 0.9 (default 0.45).
- HUD.ShowRaceHud: show or hide the timer and standings (default true).
- HUD.HudScale: scale the timer and standings from 0.7 to 1.5 (default 1.0).
- HUD.MenuToggleKey: key used to open the PeakVs menu (default F6).
- HUD.CompactHudToggleKey: key used to switch between full standings and the personal split timer (default F7).
- HUD.CompactRaceHud: remembers whether the HUD is in compact personal-split mode (default false).
- HUD.ShowSplitStats: show local PB pace, attempt number, altitude, and checkpoint dista
Install & use Install: BepInEx plugin
- The archive from playbuff is the mod itself — usually a BepInEx plugin (a .dll or a plugin folder once unzipped).
- Recommended: use a community mod manager (such as r2modman) — pick this game, import the mod, and the manager sets up BepInEx and its dependencies for you.
- Manual route: install the BepInEx loader in the game folder, then drop the unzipped .dll or plugin folder into BepInEx/plugins/.
- Launch the game — the BepInEx console logs every plugin it loads; seeing this mod in the log means it is installed.
Mods with listed dependencies need those installed too, or they will not load. Options are usually changed in-game or in the plugin's config file.
Install these first, or the mod will not work:
