HardcoreMode
Adds a Hardcore/Extreme mode with insane stamina drain to any ascent. Only the host needs to install it.
About this mod Author’s original text
Hardcore Mode
A BepInEx plugin for PEAK. It adds a Hardcore/Extreme mode — layered on top of the game's original difficulties — that drains your stamina much faster. Under the hood, it works by turning on the game's own "Grapple Mode" Custom Run setting (the one that drains stamina fast) along with the rest of your chosen ascent's effects.
Only the host needs to install this mod — but even if you're not the host, installing it yourself will also improve your Hardcore Mode experience, such as the UI and achievements.
When you use mods that add new items — items that vanilla PEAK does not have — either all clients install those mods, or nobody does.
Overview
- This mod adds a 3-way toggle button ("Normal / Hardcore / Extreme") to the ascent select screen.
- Normal is just the original version.
- Hardcore applies both the Ascent you chose (including Ascents 7 and 8) and Grapple Mode, without the golden Rescue Claw.
- Extreme does everything Hardcore does, and also sets the Custom Run "other damage" (including injury, heat, cold, and drowsiness) multiplier to the max, making the run even harder.
- This mod works in multiplayer: whether Hardcore/Extreme mode is on is shared with the host and other players.
- Clients without this mod cannot get achievements and Steam stats, since this mod works by using the game's own "Custom Run" feature, which blocks achievements and Steam stats. Also, this mod lets you turn that block on or off if you want (see Config below).
Requirements
- PEAK (Steam)
- BepInEx (BepInExPack_PEAK 5.4.75301 or later)
- (Optional) A ModConfig-style mod
- If installed, you can adjust the config options from an in-game GUI menu.
- If not installed, you can edit the same options directly in the config file under BepInEx/config.
Installation
- Have PEAK set up with BepInEx installed (installing via r2modman Mod Manager is recommended).
- Extract this mod's package and copy HardcoreMode.dll into your BepInEx/plugins/ folder.
- If you're using a mod manager, simply installing the package is enough.
- Launch the game and check that it loads correctly (BepInEx/LogOutput.log should show
Plugin HardcoreMode is loaded!).
Usage
- Open the Boarding Pass screen in the airport lobby.
- Click the toggle button added to the footer to switch between
"Normal → Hardcore → Extreme → Normal …".
- Choose your mode and pick your ascent, then press "Start". The matching settings will be applied to that run.
Configuration
Settings live under the Hardcore Mode section of the config file, except the UI-related ones (ModeButtonOffsetX / ModeButtonOffsetY, EnableModeBackgroundColor, EnableModeButtonColors, EnableOtherModButtonColors), which live under the UI section (a separate tab in mod config menus).
| Setting | Type / Default | Description |
| --- | --- | --- |
| EnableAchievementsInHardcoreMode | bool / true | When ON, this setting turns off the block on your own Steam achievements during Hardcore/Extreme runs. It only affects you, not other players. |
| EnableClimbCountInHardcoreMode | bool / true | When ON, this setting turns off the block on your own climb-count stat during Hardcore/Extreme runs. It works separately from the achievement setting above. |
| EnableFakeClusterShroom | bool / false | An optional way to help cure the curse on high Extreme ascents. See below. Only the host needs this setting. |
| ModeButtonOffsetX / ModeButtonOffsetY | float / 0, -460 | This setting controls the position of the toggle button on the Boarding Pass screen.|
| EnableModeBackgroundColor | bool / true | When ON, this setting colors the Boarding Pass header background to match the toggle button while Hardcore/Extreme is selected. When OFF, the background always stays the original color. |
| EnableModeButtonColors | bool / true | When ON, while Hardcore/Extreme is selected, this setting also colors the ascent name text and the ascent arrow buttons purple. The pencil (Custom Run) icon also becomes purple instead
Install & use Install: BepInEx plugin
- The archive from playbuff is the mod itself — usually a BepInEx plugin (a .dll or a plugin folder once unzipped).
- Recommended: use a community mod manager (such as r2modman) — pick this game, import the mod, and the manager sets up BepInEx and its dependencies for you.
- Manual route: install the BepInEx loader in the game folder, then drop the unzipped .dll or plugin folder into BepInEx/plugins/.
- Launch the game — the BepInEx console logs every plugin it loads; seeing this mod in the log means it is installed.
Mods with listed dependencies need those installed too, or they will not load. Options are usually changed in-game or in the plugin's config file.
Install these first, or the mod will not work:
