about

Tamriel Rebuilt is a massive fan project for The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind. When Bethesda Softworks, the developer of the Elder Scrolls series, began designing the game in the late 1990s, the original intention was to include all of the landmasses of the eponymous nation into the game. This proved to be too big a task, and the scope was narrowed to Morrowind's central volcanic island, Vvardenfell. Even so, the result was a huge, colorful world that many people still consider one of their most memorable gaming experiences, both in our project and others. Our goal is to continue where Bethesda left off: by creating the rest of its continent, we're building Morrowind in a way that stays true to the original developer's vision. We're not just delivering a game world that's several times larger than the original, we want the scenery, story, and characters of that world to be as captivating as the examples it exemplifies.

Rebuilding Tamriel is a long-term project. What takes a team of paid, full-time developers several years to complete will obviously take a team of volunteers even longer. On the other hand, we're also lucky enough to not be bound by the same time and budget constraints of a game studio, which means we have the freedom to take on things that would otherwise never become a reality.

Features

  • A fully playable landmass larger than The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion; filled with new NPCs, settlements, dungeons, and more.
  • Visit major cities such as Old Ebonheart, Port Telvannis, Firewatch, and Necropolis.
  • Featuring over 600+ missions and quest lines.
  • All new weapons and armor sets.
  • New books, items, spells and more.

Install

Before installing Tamriel Rebuilt, make sure you have the latest version of Morrowind (v1.6820) installed, including installing Tribunal and Bloodmoon, and Tamriel_Data version 10.0 or higher. If you are using the vanilla engine, it is also recommended that you use the Morrowind code patch.

No other plugins are required.

Tamriel Rebuilt does not include its own resource files. You need to download Tamriel_Data. Please install Tamriel_Data v10 when updating to 23.10!

Be sure to read about Tamriel_Data and activate all BSA's in Morrowind.ini.

PC_Data, TR_Data and Sky_Data need to be registered. If you don't update and register all BSAs, you will encounter exclamation marks for missing meshes and other errors.

Install & use Install: follow the bundled instructions

  1. Unzip the archive from playbuff and read the bundled readme / instructions first.
  2. There is no universal mod manager for this game: some mods replace game files directly, some go into a game-specific Mods folder, and some need a game-specific community loader or tool first — follow the bundled readme.
  3. Place the files exactly as the readme says; mods with listed dependencies need those installed too.
  4. Launch the game to confirm it loaded; some games require enabling mods in settings or an in-game mod menu.

Install locations vary a lot between games and mods — the bundled readme is the most reliable guide.
